QCi was thrilled to learn that U.S. scientist John Hopfield and British-Canadian scientist Geoffrey Hinton were the well-deserved recipients of this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics for their foundational work in machine learning! Their groundbreaking work has long inspired the QCi team and continues to play a pivotal role in QCi’s technology and innovations. For example, QCi’s recently developed photonic optimization solver, the Dirac-3, draws directly from Dr. Hopfield and Hinton’s work. The cost function that Dirac-3 natively instantiates is a higher-dimensional version of the equation they pioneered. With the advances in photonic technology that QCi is leading, the QCi team can efficiently implement these higher-order terms in the cost function, enabling the team to solve much more complex problems. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements from QCi, but for now, let's take the time to recognize and celebrate the significant achievements of Dr. Hopfield and Hinton in shaping the future of machine learning! #NobelPrize #NobelPrize2024 #physics #computerscience #machinelearning #AI #artificialneuralnetworks #pioneers #breakthroughs #groundwork #research #discoveries #inventions #revolutionary #recognition #inspiration #futureofmachinelearning #QCi #Dirac3 #quantummachine #quantumsystems #quantumtechnologies #qudits #photons #optics

💡#LessonOfTheWeek: Nonlinearity vs Linearity! Read this week’s lesson from QCi’s learning module on unconventional computing to understand the differences between nonlinearity and linearity, as well as QCi’s approach to developing and commercializing unconventional hardware. In this lesson, QCi examines nonlinear systems, where outputs are not directly proportional to inputs, unlike linear systems where superposition holds. In fields like nonlinear optics, the behavior of light depends on intensity, leading to effects that are crucial for quantum optics. While quantum mechanics is fundamentally linear, nonlinear models are often used for practical calculations, especially when dealing with complex systems such as those involving individual particles. 🚀 Exciting updates from QCi using the Dirac-3! 🚀 The max-cut problem has long served as a benchmark for quantum optimization machines. Several months ago, the QCi team showed that the Dirac-3 quantum optimizer could efficiently solve not only max-cut problems, but also the more complex, higher-dimensional variants of the problem, known as max-n-cut, where the n refers to the number of clusters into which the graph is partitioned. More recently, QCi is thrilled to announce the latest breakthrough made by the team: the Dirac-3 optimizer can now efficiently solve the max-n-cut problem on hypergraphs – an even higher-dimensional variants of graphs! QCi’s recent results indicate that the Dirac-3 optimizer consistently outperforms classical algorithms – as seen in the bottom panels below – on hypergraph partitioning tasks. Stay tuned for QCi’s upcoming publication and more promising results as the QCi team continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in efficiently solving NP-Hard problems! And read more about QCi’s exciting work using the Dirac-3 to experimentally demonstrate the successful solving of non-convex and combinatorial optimization problems here: https://lnkd.in/eRu_BKZJ. #Dirac3 #QCi #maxcut #maxcutproblem #benchmark #hypergraph #higherdimensional #entropycomputing #EQC #paradigm #optimization #NPhard #nonconvex #optimizationproblems #quantum #quantumadvantage #quantumsystems #quantumtechnologies #qudits #photons #optics #futureofquantum #results #insights #publication #scalable #versatile #quantummachine #brighterfuture
