QCi was thrilled to learn that U.S. scientist John Hopfield and British-Canadian scientist Geoffrey Hinton were the well-deserved recipients of this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics for their foundational work in machine learning! Their groundbreaking work has long inspired the QCi team and continues to play a pivotal role in QCi’s technology and innovations. For example, QCi’s recently developed photonic optimization solver, the Dirac-3, draws directly from Dr. Hopfield and Hinton’s work. The cost function that Dirac-3 natively instantiates is a higher-dimensional version of the equation they pioneered. With the advances in photonic technology that QCi is leading, the QCi team can efficiently implement these higher-order terms in the cost function, enabling the team to solve much more complex problems. This week, QCi proudly co-sponsored and attended the NYC Quantum Summit, an event aimed at creating a quantum hub for discussing near-term and long-term opportunities in quantum computation and communication. The two-day meeting brought together attendees from academia, government, and the private sector to discuss the future of quantum and explore ways to foster collaborations between the US and EU. QCi Scientific Advisor Dr. Mohammad-Ali Miri and Quantum Technology Lead Prajnesh Kumar, PhD presented insights on QCi’s latest advancements, including the Dirac 3 for optimization problems and a photonic reservoir computer for AI. 🚀 Exciting updates from QCi using the Dirac-3! 🚀 The max-cut problem has long served as a benchmark for quantum optimization machines. Several months ago, the QCi team showed that the Dirac-3 quantum optimizer could efficiently solve not only max-cut problems, but also the more complex, higher-dimensional variants of the problem, known as max-n-cut, where the n refers to the number of clusters into which the graph is partitioned. More recently, QCi is thrilled to announce the latest breakthrough made by the team: the Dirac-3 optimizer can now efficiently solve the max-n-cut problem on hypergraphs – an even higher-dimensional variants of graphs! QCi’s recent results indicate that the Dirac-3 optimizer consistently outperforms classical algorithms – as seen in the bottom panels below – on hypergraph partitioning tasks.
