Did You Know? The tradition of carving pumpkins for All Hallows’ Eve comes from the Irish tale of "Stingy Jack." Originally, people in Ireland and Scotland carved turnips or potatoes to create lanterns during All Hallows' Eve. When the tradition came to America, pumpkins were more common, giving rise to the Jack-o'-lanterns we see today! For more fun facts and updates on our SIS and OMS software, follow QuickSchools.com

The Boston Latin School, established in Boston, Massachusetts on April 23, 1635, was the very first public school in what would later become the United States. This boys-only school, led by Puritan schoolmaster Philemon Pormont, focused on college preparation. The curriculum emphasized Latin, Greek, and the humanities. Today, Boston Latin School remains operational, now serving students in grades 7-12. Since its founding, the school has undergone several changes, becoming coeducational in 1972 and relocating to Boston’s Fenway neighborhood.
