Wave Life Sciences recently released their positive proof-of-mechanism data from the ongoing RestorAATion-2 study. This novel RNA-editing approach utilizes endogenous ADAR to modify disease-causing RNA transcripts, thereby restoring normal protein function without altering the underlying DNA. A recent study published in Nature has uncovered critical insights into the assembly of protein filaments in the brains of individuals suffering from frontotemporal lobar degeneration with #TDP43 inclusions (FTLD-TDP) type C – a neurodegenerative disease. The data reveal that annexin A11 co-assembles with #TDP-43 in heteromeric amyloid filaments. This work challenges our previous understanding of amyloid assembly and may be of significance in the discovery and development of potential new therapies for #neurodegenerativediseases.
