This week at the World Cocoa Foundation Partnership meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, rich discussions are unfolding on the future of cocoa—one that values producers, fosters sustainability, and builds resilience in the face of climate change. 🍫 In a panel with global experts, Rainforest Alliance CEO Santiago Gowland emphasized the urgent need to create sustainable demand for cocoa. He highlighted: ✔️ Updates to the Rainforest Alliance certification standard and the launch of our #RegenerativeAgriculture certification later this year ✔️ The importance of #Agroforestry training & #PestManagement support to help producers build resilience ✔️ The power of multi-sector collaboration to transform the cocoa supply chain Additionally, Santiago is meeting with chocolate companies and agricultural associations in Brazil. As a key player in pre-competitive collaboration, Brazil is leveraging its resources to drive change, with the government expanding credit access for cocoa producers, including financing agroforestry systems. To build a truly sustainable sector, we must address key challenges: 🌱 Deforestation in smallholder areas underscores the need for stronger farmer support and economic security 🔎 Traceability matters—not just to know where cocoa is grown, but how it’s produced 🌍 Holistic farming must protect biodiversity while improving farmer livelihoods The way forward? ➡️ Regenerative agriculture, transparency, and collective action.
