Exciting things are happening in Downtown Raleigh! 🚴♀️🌳 Raleigh Housing Authority was honored to have Heritage Park as one of the stops on the Urban Land Institute (ULI) recent bike tour that explored the vibrant developments shaping our community. 🌿✨ RHA CEO Ashley Lommers-Johnson presented the Heritage Park Redevelopment plan, a vision to replace 122 outdated, public housing units with 550-1,000 newly constructed, energy-efficient apartments. The new development will offer a one-for-one replacement of subsidized units, provide more affordable housing options and add approximately 20,000 sq.ft. of non-residential space. Heritage Park is adjacent to several major future developments: Maeve Raleigh (by Greystar and Capital Square), the new Red Hat Amphitheater , the Raleigh Convention Center expansion, an anticipated Omni Hotels & Resorts, City Gateway Project (managed by Avison Young), the City of Raleigh Municipal Government Strollway, and Downtown South (by Kane Realty Corporation). Heritage Park is also centralized between the beautiful Dorothea Dix Park and the downtown core. When completed, the $350+ million investment will be a healthy, vibrant, thriving community, extending West Street further south and providing critical connection points along the Western Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) proposed line. A big thank you to Kenneth Bowers, Deputy Planning & Development Director at City of Raleigh and ULI. The tour covered a 6-mile route, discovering new market-rate and affordable housing developments, the enhancements coming to Chavis Park, and the transformative vision for the area surrounding Dix Park. Providing safe, quality, affordable housing to low- and moderate-income families in the Greater Raleigh community.
About us
The State of North Carolina chartered the Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA), in 1938. The first two developments constructed to replace substandard housing in the City of Raleigh were occupied in 1940 and 1941. Currently, RHA owns and manages over 1,400 public housing units and administers over 3,921 Section 8 vouchers. The occupancy rate for public housing is 99+% and the Section 8 Program is 100% utilized. There is a waiting list for both programs. The mission of the Raleigh Housing Authority is to provide safe, quality, affordable housing to low and moderate income families in the greater Raleigh community, and to promote personal responsibility and self-sufficiency of residents while maintaining the fiscal integrity of the agency. RHA has a nine member Board of Commissioners that provides oversight for the Authority. Under HUD’s report card called the Public Housing Assessment System, RHA is rated as a “High Performer”. Our most recent score was 97 out of 100. RHA is active in the following areas: • Capital Fund Program • Resident Initiatives • Housing for Seniors

Raleigh Housing Authority is pleased to announce a new way for Raleigh residents to access affordable housing! Rock Quarry Landing, a brand new 188-unit apartment complex, is partnering with RHA to offer our first Project-Based Vouchers (PBV). Unlike traditional tenant-based vouchers, PBV housing assistance is linked to a particular property. The new vouchers will house 26 individuals and families for up to 20 years, with no more than 30% of their income going towards rent. Stay tuned to see more affordable housing coming through the RHA pipeline! Appreciation to partners and those who gave special remarks at last week's ribbon cutting, marking the grand opening of the community: Charlie Heritage of South Creek Development; Corey Branch, City Council Member for the City of Raleigh Municipal Government; RHA CEO Ashley Lommers-Johnson; Wake County Public School System Board Member Toshiba Rice; NC Representative Rosa Gill; the NCHFA; Hill Tide Partners and so many others who helped bring this project to fruition.
