Our founder Joel Mulkey recently had the opportunity to talk with with US Senator Ron Wyden about how the UAS companies like Rangair can help fight destructive wildfires impacting Oregon and beyond. It was encouraging to hear of Senator Wyden's interest in supporting the drone industry through improvements to regulations and federal agency responsiveness. Our hope at Rangair is that the government will dedicate funds specifically for UAS services on wildfires. This will lead to net savings from reduced firefighting costs, property losses, insurance costs, and lives lost. During the meeting we also got to hear from other cohort members of the Oregon UAS Accelerator about the opportunities and challenges they see in the industry. It's great to see so many people thinking in innovative ways! Thanks to the accelerator for arranging the visit and for the Pendleton UAS Test Range for hosting the event.

We're excited to announce that XPRIZE's judges have selected Rangair as one of the Qualified Teams in the #XPRIZEWildfire Autonomous Wildfire Response competition! Through our participation in this competition, we hope to shorten the time for detection, decision-making, and rapid response to wildfires before they become destructive. As one of 29 progressing teams we get a share in the $750k milestone prize purse, as well as an opportunity to compete in the next phase of the competition. Our proposed solution combines our Airborne Broadband system with several other innovative technologies to quickly deliver targeted suppression under the tree canopy. Stay tuned for more details on our journey to the semifinals. To learn more about XPRIZE Wildfire and the other advancing teams you can check out their post here: https://lnkd.in/ek9QUPwt

We're flying! Yesterday we executed our first flights at the Pendleton UAS Test Range, through our participation in the Oregon UAS Accelerator. In this video you can see a brief flight, and the 2nd half is a completely automated "return to launch" maneuver. We're conducting further tests today, and in the next few weeks we'll be integrating our custom wireless payload to bring broadband Internet to wildland firefighters.
