🚨 **Important Health Update for the ADHD Community** 🚨 The CDC recently issued an advisory following the indictment of a major subscription-based telehealth provider, which has been serving 30,000-50,000 ADHD patients. Combined with current stimulant medication shortages, this could create significant barriers for those relying on treatment. During this time, it’s essential to: - Support patients in finding local clinicians and pharmacies - Avoid stigma toward those affected by this disruption - Ensure continuity of care with proper assessments and treatment options - Consider alternative FDA-approved treatments if prescribed medications are unavailable Let’s come together to make sure everyone continues to receive the care they need. August 31st marks International Overdose Awareness Day—a time to reflect, raise awareness, and take action. At the West Virginia University Extension building during the state fair, we handed out purple ribbons and engaged with the community on critical topics like overdose awareness, the naloxone ONEbox initiative, and SOARWV's "Save a Life Day" campaign, offering free naloxone across all West Virginia counties. With West Virginia tragically leading the nation in overdose deaths per capita, it's more important than ever to advocate for our communities. Let's continue to spread awareness, increase access to treatment, and ensure naloxone is available to those in need. Together, we can make a difference. #OverdoseAwareness #SaveALife #WestVirginiaStrong

Last night, I had the opportunity to deliver a Continuing Education (CE) session on the evaluation and diagnosis of ADHD. **Did you know?** West Virginia is disproportionately impacted by ADHD, with prevalence rates estimated to be as high as 14%—significantly higher than the national average of 10.1% in children aged 3-17. ADHD is also highly heritable, with research suggesting a heritability rate of nearly 80%. Beyond genetics, several other risk factors are particularly relevant in our state, including prenatal substance exposure and heavy metal exposure. As we continue to understand and address these challenges, it's crucial to support both awareness and early intervention in our communities. If this topic interests you or could benefit your practice, I’d be happy to connect and explore opportunities to collaborate. Feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to set something up! #ADHD #ContinuingEducation #WestVirginia #LifelongLearner Rational Drug Therapy Program (RDTP)- Academic Detailing

This past week has been a profound journey of learning and development for our team. On Monday and Tuesday, we had the privilege of shadowing and engaging with Jonathan Perle, Ph.D., ABPP His insights allowed us to delve deeply into the intricacies of ADHD assessment and evaluation, as well as explore non-pharmacological strategies for managing the condition. From Wednesday through Friday, we had the opportunity to unlock the power of motivational interviewing, guided by Jan Kavookjian, PhD, MBA, FAPhA, FADCES. Through a combination of didactic instruction, peer role-playing, and case-based discussions, we began to develop the practical skills necessary to utilize this powerful communication tool when talking with peers. While these skills will undoubtedly require time and practice to fully develop, I am confident they will prove invaluable not only in my professional endeavors but also in my personal life. Thank you to Dr. Kavookjian and Dr. Perle for generously sharing your expertise. Your guidance has equipped our team with essential tools to excel and thrive in West Virginia!
