When I reflect on my journey working in Information Technology (IT) from twenty-five years ago to today, it fascinates me to see how the IT industry has grown and become so complex and intertwined into day-to-day business operations. Just as quickly and complex as technology has grown, so has the job of the IT staff that supports that technology.
Some of the major challenges I experienced when I started doing support included things like troubleshooting mail merge issues when working on phonebook databases or helping when someone forgot to swap out a tape for a backup. Now, databases have grown to be complex in structure, size, and location offering big data that can be shared across the globe. Immutable backups in the cloud now provide a more secure and reliable means of preserving and accessing company information when needed.
Like many other businesses today, Raydia Food Group continues to adapt new technology and help improve our customers’ experiences - Serving Customers Brilliantly, while optimizing business operations. From the headsets that guide our warehouse teams through picking customer orders, to the handheld devices guiding our drivers through customer deliveries, technology continues to support our customers and business needs. Supporting that technology around the clock is a group of skilled, forward-thinking, hard-working IT staff.
Today’s IT staff has to stay informed of ever-changing technology, learning about things like the use of artificial intelligence, quantum computing and the Internet of Things. Often staff has to ensure that data is available across the globe at any time of the day or night. The IT team, an often-silent partner, is instrumental in facilitating operational requirements in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Please join me in taking a minute out of your day to recognize and thank the IT staff that support your business needs. Their work does not go unnoticed!!
