  • As part of our routine Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) assessments for re-accreditation, you are invited to offer input! Accreditation embodies the precepts of best police practices by creating a forum in which law enforcement agencies and citizens work together to prevent and control challenges confronting law enforcement and provides clear direction about community expectations. A public portal has been made available by the CALEA to receive your comments regarding our compliance with their 461 national accreditation standards. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns here https://loom.ly/6YkpAN0 As the first law enforcement agency in the state of Kansas, we've been nationally accredited for over 30 years, and plan to remain accredited far into the future with your help.

  • We proudly join the nation in observing #NationalPoliceWeek, a time to recognize and pay tribute to the extraordinary men and women who chose a career in law enforcement. Being a police officer means embodying a calling to serve and protect. It means responding to urgent calls for help, comforting those in distress, and fearlessly confronting adversity to maintain peace and order. Our officers embody the values of integrity, honor, and empathy as they navigate complex situations with unwavering professionalism. National Police Week provides an opportunity for us to express our gratitude for the sacrifices made by our officers and their families. It's a time to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty and to honor those who continue to serve with dedication. This week, we acknowledge their bravery and commitment to the pursuit of justice. We have nothing but the deepest appreciation for our officers who are the bedrock of our community's security. To all the police officers out there, we thank you. Today and every day, we stand beside you.

  • For the past 32 years, the Riley County Police Department has held itself to the highest standard in law enforcement as recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. We are up for re-accreditation again. As part of the CALEA assessment, members of the community and department employees are invited to offer comments regarding our ability to comply with set standards. You can do that here: https://loom.ly/o2orR_o The on-site assessment begins Monday, December 4th through Thursday, December 7th, and will examine all aspects of our department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Riley County works daily to meet the state-of-the-art standards outlined by CALEA. The voluntary process to maintain accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Riley County Police Department received its initial accreditation from CALEA in 1991. The department has maintained its accredited status during on-site assessments conducted in 1996, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2016, and again in 2020. Our agency takes great pride in being the first Kansas Law Enforcement Agency ever accredited. For additional information or to obtain a copy of a specific standard contact Julia Goggins, the Department’s Accreditation Manager, at (785) 537-2112 ext 2398.
