Building Community Through Solar.

About us

RE-volv is a climate justice nonprofit that empowers people to bring clean energy to their communities. We do this by providing solar financing to community-serving nonprofits nationwide, while educating the next generation of clean energy professionals. Over the past decade, RE-volv has supported over 70 nonprofits across 18 states make the switch to solar, which moving forward are eligible for Direct Pay tax incentives for nonprofits a part of the Inflation Reduction Act. With a focus on solarizing nonprofits in low-to-middle-income communities and BIPOC communities, we’ve seen real progress toward a just energy transition through solar education and nonprofits reinvesting solar savings into the community.

Since 2014, over 400 university and college students have trained to become clean energy leaders as RE-volv Solar Ambassadors. The Georgia Tech Solar Ambassador chapter was the latest team to apply their training to the real world and make a massive positive impact on climate change in their community. On March 30th, LifeLine Animal Project, Georgia's largest animal welfare nonprofit, celebrated their solar ribbon cutting with Georgia Tech’s Solar Ambassador team, led by Julia Fleischman and Chloe Weed. Julia shared, “It helps the animal shelter, it helps the students, and it also helps the environment.” Watch the full video below! ⬇️ Ready to bring your skills to the Solar Ambassador Fellowship program? It’s a historic day for RE-volv, the communities we serve, and the climate. 🎉 We are thrilled to announce $4M in generous support from Candide Group's Afterglow Climate Justice Fund and Invest in Our Future. This funding will enable us to finance more nonprofit solar projects, with an emphasis in historically excluded low-income communities and communities of color, while also raising awareness about the benefits of clean energy. The funding consists of: ⚡ A $3.2 million investment from Candide Group’s Afterglow Climate Justice Fund in the form of debt, enabling RE-volv to offer its zero-down solar financing products to nonprofits across the country. ⚡An $800,000 grant from Invest in Our Future to scale RE-volv’s operational capacity, while bolstering community engagement, workforce development, and storytelling activities. By offering more solar financing, we are also able to help more nonprofits nationwide access savings through the IRA’s Direct Pay Provision. As RE-volv deploys the $3.2 million of project capital invested by Afterglow Climate Justice Fund, it will unlock over $1 million of Direct Pay savings for these community-serving organizations. The IRA is making a real difference in communities nationwide. 👏 Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) Direct Pay provision, nonprofits and houses of worship can unlock 30% or more cash back on the cost of their solar systems. Plumas Charter School is a no-cost, K-12 public school in Quincy, CA that provides education to over 300 students, 48% from low-income families. The school went solar with RE-volv in 2023, and received significant savings through the IRA’s Direct Pay. Taletha Washburn, Executive Director of the charter school, shared that their experience going solar was like “magic landed in our lap.” ✨ Watch ➡ https://lnkd.in/eNgxXa9y More about Plumas Charter School ➡ https://lnkd.in/eKvXiKBn

Today at the White House! Over 50 selected faith leaders from across the US gathered for a convening on Climate, Clean Energy and Environmental Justice. 🏛⚡ Alongside California Interfaith Power & Light and Jacquelyn Badejo (she, her), RE-volv was grateful for the opportunity to share stories of how Direct Pay can benefit communities today. 👏 The presentation centered on Watts-Willowbrook Church of Christ’s solar journey, and how they will function as a resiliency hub for the Compton, Watts, and Willowbrook communities – providing AC during heatwaves and air filtration during poor air quality days. Jacquelyn Badejo, environmental activist and representative from the congregation shared that, “The community is becoming more familiar with solar. I would say that the Watts-Willowbrook Church of Christ going solar is a ray of hope, showcasing what is possible to other congregations and residents in the community.” The Watts-Willowbrook Church of Christ solar project was a part of the broader BIPOC Houses of Worship Initiative, aiming to accelerate the deployment of solar energy for BIPOC-led faith-based organizations. This initiative is a partnership between Interfaith Power & Light, RE-volv and Green The Church with support from National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Solar Energy Innovation Network.
