  • Gratitude for Reading Businesses - Employers partnering with local schools to help build a stronger talent pipeline. This summer a job coaching program at Reading HS was a remarkable success. A grant provided students with invaluable hands-on experience and practical work skills that will benefit them in their future careers. Over the course of the last five weeks , students engaged in various tasks and responsibilities at a variety of places in town, gaining insights into different professional environments and developing their competencies. The dedication and enthusiasm of the students were evident as they embraced the opportunity to learn and grow in a real-world setting. A special thank you goes out to the local businesses that generously opened their doors and welcomed our students: Sugar Shack by the Tracks, Bitter Sweet, Reading Floral Boutique, and the Mayerson JCC. Your support and willingness to mentor these young individuals played a crucial role in the success of the program. By providing a nurturing and educational environment, you have significantly contributed to their personal and professional development. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.

    Assistant Superintendent Reading Community Schools

Reading Community Schools proudly hosted its first-ever Business Partnership Breakfast, celebrating the development of collaborative relationships with local, national, and international businesses, as well as workforce development intermediaries. This inaugural event took place with notable attendees including a representative from the Lieutenant Governor’s office, key figures in local economic development, prominent regional business leaders, and workforce development experts emphasizing the importance of this gathering.   The breakfast served as a platform to honor and thank our business partners who have made contributions to the enrichment of our schools and students. Special acknowledgments were given to Bitter Sweet Creamery and Mueller Roofing for their outstanding support and commitment to educational excellence. Bitter Sweet Creamery, under the guidance of Yok Shaw, has been instrumental in launching a work-based learning initiative with Reading students. This partnership led to the creation of the student-run enterprise, Blue Devil Bakery, allowing students to step into the real world of business within the supportive environment of their learning community. This hands-on experience aims to nurture creativity, entrepreneurship, and practical skills among students.   Mueller Roofing has generously contributed to the enhancement of our school facilities, particularly with a significant donation toward improvements to our softball field. This gesture not only beautifies our campus but also supports our athletic programs, contributing to a well-rounded educational experience for our students.   During the event, Dr. Davis, Superintendent, along with Mark Edwards, Assistant Superintendent, Michael Howton, RJSH Principal, and Luke Cripe, Teacher, addressed the gathering. They shared insights into the strategic direction of Reading Schools and extended heartfelt thanks to each partner for their pivotal roles and continuous support. Mr. Cripe, in particular, highlighted the profound impact that work-based learning opportunities provided by our business partners are having on the lives of our students.   Reading Community Schools is deeply grateful to all the partners who have come forward to help create innovative and enriching educational experiences for our students. These collaborations not only enhance our educational programs but also strengthen our community, laying a strong foundation for the leaders of tomorrow.   As we continue to develop and expand our partnerships, we remain committed to fostering a nurturing environment where every student can achieve their potential through the support and involvement of our entire community. We look forward to more collaborative efforts and are excited about what the future holds for Reading Community Schools.   For more information on how to become a partner or get involved, please our administration office. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students.

Ohio is living its values and changing lives again by investing in #CareerTechEd and #HandsOnTraining! What an honor it was to be in SWOhio this morning with #TeamOhio - Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, the Ohio Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation Team, Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen Dackin, AMIP Executive Director Susan Whitman and many other members of Ohio's #Manufacturing Community hosted by Dr. Damon C. Davis and the incredible Reading Community School District! The announcement of 56 statewide educational recipients of the Ohio Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program was truly awe-inspiring to know that an additional 10,345 students across the state will benefit from their schools being able to purchase up-to-date equipment so they can better prepare students to be #CareerReady upon graduation! There is more funding to come; so, if your school did not apply this round please put a plan together so your students can be exposed to the latest #AdvancedManufacturingTechnology during their high school experience! #ManufactureANewFuture | #OhioLovesManufacturing | #OhioMEP | Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP)
