[RESEARCH PAPER] 🎉 Excited to share the latest RECETAS paper published in MethodsX ! 🌲 Our team has developed an innovative methodology that measures what a 'therapeutic nature dose' is, with the goal of facilitating "greater understanding of how natural areas, nature-based activities, and nature exposure reduce loneliness and promote health-related quality of life", in the context of a larger research initiative aiming to connect people with nature-based social prescribing practices. 🏙️ This paper emphasizes the critical need to combat loneliness, a major public health issue linked to various mental and physical health problems, especially in urban settings. Our RECETAS researchers point out that understanding the optimal "nature dose" can help reduce the prevalence of loneliness. 🔗 Want to find out more? About us
Walking in a park, swimming in a lake, cultivating flowers... What if these activities, practiced in a group and shared with others, were offered to fight loneliness and to improve wellbeing in cities? RECETAS (Re-imagining Environments for Connection and Engagement: Testing Actions for Social Prescribing in Natural Spaces) is a project funded by the European Commission's H2020 program. Our goal: develop and test green and social activities to improve the physical and mental health and well-being of urban citizens. Our consortium, composed of 13 institutions from 9 countries, is using multidisciplinary approaches to imagine and implement 'Nature-based Social Prescribing' in 6 pilot cities worldwide.

Congratulations on this #translational #research milestone to find common ground on the concept of #socialprescribing, which is critical for advancing SP-related research, evaluation, policy and practice. This work was developed by a deeply dedicated group of scholars and led by Caitlin Muhl and Kate Mulligan! So glad to see RECETAS PROJECT investigators contributing to this important study— Anu Jansson David Acurio- Páez (Univeristy of Cuenca) #alzbetaBartova (Charles University ) Professor Michelle Howarth (Edge Hill University Marcello Bertotti (University of East London).

Hyvinvointilähete (Social Prescribing) on yksi ratkaisu! "Kun noin viidenneksellä terveydenhuollon piiriin hakeutuvilla syy onkin ennemmin sosiaalinen kuin terveydellinen, hyvinvointilähete on tapa vahvistaa ennaltaehkäisevää toimintaa, mutta myös resurssien tehokkaampaa kohdistamista palvelujärjestelmässä." (Tiihonen & Lovio 2022, Sitra) Jill Litt'n johtamassa RECETAS PROJECTissa työ hyvinvointilähetteen äärellä kietoutuu luontolähtöiseen toimintaan (nature-based social prescribing). Projektin Suomen tiimissä tarkastelemme Prof. emerita Kaisu Pitkälän johdolla, mm. sitä, miten monin eri tavoin luonto on yhteydessä palvelutaloissa asuvien iäkkäiden ihmisten hyvinvointiin, ja selvitämme, minkälaisia kokemuksia he luontoteemasta sanoittavat. Lisää projektista: https://lnkd.in/dM8Tpb9h Caitlin Muhl tutkijakollegoineen on tehnyt merkittävää työtä social prescribing -termin kuvaamiseksi ja selkiyttämiseksi. Yhtenäisempää määrittelyä tarvitaankin, jotta ko. interventiota mm. voidaan arvioida paremmin ja integroida helpommin hyvinvoinnin ja terveyden edistämiseen yhteiskunnassamme. Caitlin on ansiokkaasti tuonut eri alojen asiantuntijoita yhteen keskustelemaan ja hakemaan yhteisymmärrystä varsin moniulotteisesta käsitteestä. Prosessi on ollut antoisa ja opettavainen. Se on myös havahduttanut siihen, miten valtavan laaja joukko asiantuntijoita ympäri maailman aiheen äärellä työskentelee! Kiitos Caitlin!❤️ Muhl, C., Mulligan, K., Giurca, B.C. et al. 🌍 An “Epidemic” of Loneliness? The Challenge Surrounding Vulnerable Groups - READ the article > https://t.ly/hxYM1 On this World Mental Health Day, 10th of October 2024, the RECETAS Project shines a light on individuals facing socio-economic vulnerabilities, often compounded by multiple forms of discrimination. These factors significantly impact mental health and create daily challenges. The RECETAS project, funded by Horizon 2020, connects six cities across Europe, Latin America, and Australia to explore Nature-Based Social Prescribing as a tool to reduce loneliness and improve well-being. In Marseille, RECETAS targets individuals experiencing economic difficulties, as they are particularly at risk of facing periods of loneliness APHM (Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Marseille) In Melbourne, the project focuses on LGBTQIA+ refugees and asylum seekers, whose vulnerability to loneliness is exacerbated by their legal status and migratory pathways RMIT School of Global, Urban and Social Studies How are the RECETAS teams in Marseille and Melbourne addressing these issues in their interventions? #MentalHealth #Loneliness #SocialInclusion #RECETAS #WorldMentalHealthDay #Wellbeing #CommunityCare
