In today's episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I share my experience of a sleepless night and how it ties into our recovery. How do we face the day in recovery when we don't feel good from lack of sleep. We face even tougher days when we’re exhausted, stressed, or just not feeling ourselves. I explore how a lack of sleep and feeling drained can make things harder, but these are the moments when we need to rely on our recovery tools the most. I also discuss the importance of self-care, especially when we’re not at our best, and how recovery teaches us to show up for ourselves on the hard days. I discuss how these challenging times can test our strength, but they also offer us the chance to grow and build resilience. Join me as I talk about finding strength in the struggle, leaning into the power of our program, and moving forward—no matter what. In today’s episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I explore humility as described in the book "As Bill Sees It." Humility can be misunderstood as weakness or self-degradation, but I discuss how true humility can actually strengthen us in recovery and in life. Humility enables us to right size ourselves in the world and in our relationships so that we can start listening to others a more than we listen to that little inner voice that says, "just do what you want." I share how the practice of humility has transformed my life over the past year in stroke recovery and allowed me to heal. I talk about what it means to be open to growth, to admit when we need help, and to forgive ourselves and others. I reflect on the importance of letting go of ego, confiding in others, and learning to forgive as part of a healthy, spiritual life. In today’s episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I discuss spirituality in recovery. Many of us believe that spiritual fitness means we are feeling good, but spirituality has nothing to do with how we feel. I’ll talk about the deeper meaning of spirituality—how it empowers us to do the next right thing, no matter what we’re feeling inside. Through honesty, tolerance, and patience, we discover that true spiritual strength is doing the next right thing, even on the tough days. In today’s episode of Recovery Daily Podcast, I talk about standing up for ourselves and recognizing that we deserve better. Recovery is about more than just stopping destructive behaviors—it’s also about caring for our well-being. I talk about how it takes courage to put on our "oxygen mask first," and take care of ourselves before we can help others. I share about my inspiration this morning where a woman said, “I don’t deserve to be treated this way,” not as a plea for someone else to change, but as a declaration that she was ready to make the change. It’s such a powerful realization, and I explore what it takes to stand tall, lift our chins, and say, “No more.” The journey of self-worth can be scary, especially when dealing with toxic people. But through recovery, we learn that we are worth protecting. Setting boundaries is a courageous act of faith in ourselves, and the more we practice it, the more natural it becomes. This episode is about cleaning our side of the street and choosing a life where we thrive with dignity and respect. Join me as I unpack these themes, offering tools and encouragement for anyone struggling with self-worth. Remember, you are worth it. In this episode of Recovery Daily Podcast, I explore the concept of finding good even in difficult times. It's easy to overlook the blessings in life when everything seems to be falling apart. However, difficult times can act as a spiritual checkpoint, waking us up to the things we've not really been paying attention to and helping us sift through our toolbox for living. Inspired by the phrase "Thy will be done, not mine," I discuss how the bad times in our lives often bring more growth and good than the rapid pace we maintain when things seem fine. By recognizing the opportunity within hardships, we strengthen our spiritual practice and borrow tools from each other when needed. Join me as I talk about the importance of gratitude during adversity and how these moments can lead to deeper serenity and fulfillment. In this episode of *Recovery Daily Podcast*, I explore a personal concept: serenity isn't something we have to chase or add to our lives—it's already there, waiting for us. I discuss how joy and serenity are ever-present, but they're often blocked by distractions, resentments, and expectations. Throughout the episode, I discuss the importance of letting go of the things that obscure our serenity, the power of adopting a “live and let live” mindset, and how releasing unrealistic expectations of others can bring us more peace. We aren't adding more to our lives, but rather clearing away the emotional clutter to uncover what’s already there. This episode will remind you to focus on acceptance, and how serenity is always within reach when we remove the barriers in our minds. In this episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I discuss the relationship between creativity and brain function, particularly in the context of stroke recovery. Mostly, creativity is associated with the right hemisphere of the brain, known for handling tasks related to imagination, spatial abilities, and artistic expression. However, "they" say that creativity is a product of both hemispheres working together, integrating logical and analytical skills with imaginative processes. I explore the concept of "paradoxical functional facilitation," where damage to one part of the brain, such as a stroke in the left hemisphere, might lead to enhanced abilities in other areas, potentially boosting creativity. This phenomenon has been observed in some stroke survivors who experience a shift in cognitive functions, resulting in increased artistic expression or a newfound interest in creative activities. Throughout the episode, I discuss the complexity of the brain. For those in recovery—whether from a stroke, alcoholism, or other challenges—this episode is a reminder that life’s unexpected twists can sometimes uncover hidden strengths and abilities. In today's episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I talk about how taking physical action can influence our inner world. I explore the idea that sometimes, we need to act first—whether it’s cultivating faith, joy, relaxation, or inspiration—and let our emotions follow. By taking deliberate physical steps, we can shift our mood and enhance our mental well-being. Throughout this episode, I share examples of how this concept has played a role in my recovery, emphasizing that we don't have to be victims of our moods. Instead, we can take control by engaging in actions that promote positive emotions and overall wellness. Tune in to learn how to harness this powerful tool in your daily life. In today's episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I explore the mantra "I don’t drink no matter what" and its impact on any recovery journey, including stroke and vestibular conditions. This phrase isn't just a commitment to sobriety; it's a life-saving promise we make to ourselves every day. I talk about how this mindset applies in both good and bad times—whether it's the temptation to drink to celebrate or to escape during moments of stress and despair. I share how I've built habits that naturally support my sobriety, turning actions like deep breathing, prayer, and reaching out to others into second nature. These are the self-care practices that have become my go-to relaxation techniques, replacing the need for alcohol to unwind. I also touch on the parallels between this mindset in sobriety and its application in my stroke recovery and living with a vestibular disorder. Just as I don't give up on my sobriety, I refuse to give up on my recovery journey, no matter what challenges arise. Join me as I discuss the importance of showing up for life, embracing the calming process, and discovering the serenity that comes from not just abstaining from alcohol but thriving in recovery. This episode is a reminder that we’re all in this together, saving each other by sharing our experiences and never giving up.
