    One of our lawyer friends likes to remind us that “all hiring is discrimination.” Before you go crazy, here's what she means: The act of hiring itself is choosing wisely, given multiple options. You’re literally saying no – discriminating – based on the evidence at hand. One of the problems with choosing wisely is that sometimes you can’t get candidates to talk about what matters to you. Or, you can’t get your team to remember to ask candidates about what matters to you. Or, you don’t know how to ask the kinds of questions that get a candidate to talk, without them parroting what they think you want to hear. This is a serious problem. You spent decades building your company. You don’t have time for someone who can't be bothered to read your mission statement or talk about it. So, here’s what we did in our new ATS: we made sure your company values show up in every part of the hiring process. They’ll be on your careers page. You can add them to pipeline stages. And, in just a month, we’re even enabling you to have candidates answer a question or two about your values before they apply.     It’s day 3 of RedBalloon’s ATS launch week! I want to talk about something most employers are missing. You remember Google’s George Washington, right? And Facebook’s free speech failures? We all know Big Tech leans so far left, it’s almost horizontal. Big Tech has a big bias. Unfortunately, few people realize Big Tech hiring platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed are following the exact same playbook.  From diversity nudges, to skin color algorithms, to letting AI make your hiring decisions for you. Let that sink in. When we made our new ATS, we made a commitment to go “Algorithm-Free.”  RedBalloon is bringing human back. Our hiring system is totally transparent. We won’t hide candidates unless you tell us they’re not qualified. And if you're hiring Software Developers, we’ll let every Software Developers in our database know, no matter what their gender or skin color is.     Do something big. Something difficult. Something that takes a long time. You cannot grow in certain virtues without adversity. Big problems have adversity built in. If you spend your entire working life: Delivering small new features, Or prepping weekly reports, Or making sure you hit the gym after work, You’ll grow in some virtues. But not faith. Not endurance. The stakes are too low. This year, I had the unique privilege of releasing a book that took me a year to complete. Next week, my company, RedBalloon, will be releasing something really big that took us a year make. There’s something about working hard on a big project. Continuing on when you can’t see the finish line. Delaying, and delaying, and delaying the reward. We are reminded of the span of our lives, our work which one day will end, and of what comes after. #RedBalloon #products #release
