About us
We are a Califronia-based non-profit & Harvard Innovation Labs venture working on improving public health & education outcomes for native people and their communities. We provide expert knowledge, valuable resources, and strategic connections in the context of Native studies, including education about contemporary Indigenous issues, as well as consultation & diplomacy with native communities. We do this by: A) Providing ways to integrate authentic Native voices into projects, research, data collection and programming. B)Providing research-backed best practices guides for organizations serving Native people. C)Documenting Tribal history and knowledge to help protect and preserve culture. Our Work: Redbud Resource Group facilitates collaborations to ensure your projects are influential and effective. Whether you’re a public benefit organization, company, government agency, learning institution, or Tribal government, we help you meet your mission while also contributing to the growth, health, and sovereignty of local Native communities. For many Native people in the United States, living in between cultural worlds is common. “Two Eyed Seeing”, or approaching a problem from multiple cultural perspectives at the same time, is a skill that many Native people have developed. It is this very experience that informs our work. We understand that problems, solutions, and possibilities cannot reach their potential when approached with one eye closed. To see the full picture, we must invite multiple cultural perspectives to the table, knowing that they are equally relevant and important.

Why is Land Access Important? From the time our ancestors were forcibly removed from our traditional homelands, California Natives have strived to reconnect with our lands, water ways, natural resources, and cultural heritage. This disconnection has impacted the overall well-being and health of tribal communities through several health disparities. After generations of removal from lands our people have inhabited for millennia, the negative effects on California Natives are profound, mirroring the experiences of many Indigenous peoples worldwide. Even though we have been physically relocated, our bodies and the land itself still remembers our origins. This past weekend, tribal members from the foothill Maidu community and others were invited back to our ancestral homelands to gather Ja:lalu (elderberries). This gathering allowed different generations of Maidu from various tribal communities to come together, reinforcing our communal bonds and reclaiming an important traditional Native staple food. By being on our traditional lands, we not only reconnected with the land but also strengthened relationships with each other. Access to land is crucial for California Natives as it provides access to Native foods like Ja:lalu, promoting healthier diets and addressing health disparities. Reconnecting with our homelands enables us to rebuild relationships with our lands, waters, natural resources, and cultural heritage that were severed by genocide, colonization, and assimilation. It offers an opportunity to heal our wounds of intergenerational trauma and reestablish healthy relationships with our ancestral lands. We would like to extend our gratitude to River Partners for giving us at Redbud Resource Group, the foothill Maidu community and others the opportunity to heal, rekindle sacred relationships, and take a step forward in practicing Indigenous land stewardship. #IndigenousLandRights #CulturalReconnection #NativeHealth #LandAccess #MaiduCommunity #TraditionalFoods #IndigenousHealing #CulturalIdentity #HealthEquity #NativeWellness #IntergenerationalTrauma #IndigenousStewardship #RedbudResourceGroup #CaliforniaNative #NativeCalifornia #CaliforniaIndian

During our Wisdom Weaver Summer Day Camp, many of the Native youth didn’t know each other and were very shy. As the week went on, they began to open up and build friendships. By the end of the week, they didn’t want the Summer Camp to end. “Anthony keeps asking when he can see the boys again. [As a parent] I definitely love that he learned so much about his Native people, but even more priceless at his age is the connection he made socially.” As our Native peoples continue to reconnect to our cultural identities after past generations of genocide and assimilation, it is important to acknowledge the significance of attending social events, staying in community with one another, and continuing to build relationships within our greater Native community. Being social is key to learning more about our Indigenous heritage, languages, traditional foods, arts, and so much more! Creating space for Native youth to interact and engage with one another is integral for them to build confidence and boost self-esteem. Here at Redbud Resource Group, we feel blessed to provide the space for Native youth to socialize and create lifelong lasting friendships with each other.
