Once in a while, we pause to celebrate. Rather than a ribbon cutting or groundbreaking event, this crew took part in a "Stud Signing" and left their mark for a future generation to find! This was a great day last week - we celebrated the construction of two new homes in City of Lakota, ND Government as part of the Red River Community Housing Development Organization's 2024 Spark Build Initiative. Two more homes will be built in Larimore later this season. Our housing study that is near completion shows the need for 1,800 to 3,000 new housing units in Region 4 ... so much opportunity for growth. We would sure like to see our small towns capture some of this growth! Extraordinary work leading this project Lisa Rotvold Shouts out to ... Red River CHDO Board Marcy Douglas, Michael Helt, Amie Vasichek, Rebecca Kjelland, and Shelley Popiel. City of Lakota for donating the lots to this initiative and leading the region in this pilot program ... Tommy Gemmill and his team at Gemmill Homes of Fordville for construction ... and for the financing ... First United Bank and State Bank of Lakota ... and the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency - Housing Incentive Fund. Grateful to our legislators for enabling the HIF program to support single family housing in rural, developing communities.

One of our favorite days of the year! Marketplace for Kids. A full day of career exposure, innovation and entrepreneurship sessions for 3rd to 8th graders from Grafton, Cavalier, Park River, and Midway. Jenny Dusek, Grafton EDC, Mike Hanson, North Valley, Sen John Hoeven (virtually), and Dawn Mandt, RRRC, provided the opening welcomes and key note speech. Sam Green was the emcee. Shout out to Robert Heitkamp and his team at Marketplace as well as all the planning team, schools, students, teachers, band, IT and all the session speakers, color guard, and all the volunteers making this an exciting day! Next year - it will be in Cavalier. Stacie, Angelle, and Cheryl are all giving a hand!
