Mine waste as fuel for the energy transition. That’s a good idea. Regeneration thanks the Rivian Foundation for a catalytic grant to RESOLVE, to show that we can clean up sites and restore habitat. #beginagain https://lnkd.in/d9FXVjfd

We need more minerals and metals to power the energy transition. But we don’t need more mine waste. At Regeneration, we believe a solution lies in remining and restoring old and abandoned mines. There are many reasons why combining remining and restoration makes sense. In our latest article, we look at 5 – you can read about them here: https://lnkd.in/ge4TeXq6 Regeneration. Thanks for sharing the Salmon Gold story Andrea Hill. By transforming mine waste into responsible minerals and metals, we can turn degraded lands into ecological and community assets.
If you weren't able to attend the 8th Annual Chicago Responsible Jewelry Conference this year, but are curious about the proceedings, you can get a recap in this article. But at 2,000 words I could hardly do justice to the incredible two days of content we experienced. As always, it was an event packed with meaningful, brave, actionable information intended to help us make individual choices that, together, will help us transform our supply chains. https://lnkd.in/gCRacTqW Mejuri Regeneration Jewelers Vigilance Committee PeaceGold™ Pact ETHICAL METALSMITHS MORGAN BURGER Amazon Watch Cristina Maria Villegas Columbia Gem House Inc Natasha Braunwart Ana Brazaitytė Stanley Zale Susan Wheeler #supplychains #business #esg #responsibility

Is it possible to wear Salmon Gold? Through Regeneration's partnership with Mejuri it is. Check out Holly McHugh, as she talks about her ambition and the journey.
🗣️ “It's more than just a material; it symbolises how luxury and sustainability can go hand-in-hand” – Mejuri’s Holly McHugh (she/her) on Salmon Gold – the brand's latest innovation Mejuri has been redefining everyday luxury since 2015, and a Real Changemaker since 2024. Now, they introduce an innovative material sourcing method which restores vital habitats – connecting biodiversity and the environment to jewellery in an entirely new way. Mejuri’s VP of Sustainability & Social Impact explains all in our exclusive interview – plus, tells the story of the brand’s origins, and where it’s headed next. 🔗 Tap link below to read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/eMeyddHd

Mine waste is a legacy nobody wants to inherit. By combining remining waste with restoration, we can provide responsibly sourced materials, help fund habitat restoration and bring new life to communities. We’re working hard to give retired mines a second chance: We're reviewing 70+ sites around the world for remining and restoration. We have 5 now under final assessment. And at 3 locations, restoration planning is already underway. That’s on top of our Salmon Gold sites, which are already delivering nature-positive gold and restoring critical fish habitat. What if we could move forward by going back? Today our CEO STEPHEN DESPOSITO joined Mejuri's Holly McHugh (she/her) and Vogue Business's Rachel Cernansky to talk about why the time is right to rethink mining waste. Waste from orphaned and closed mine sites strains ecosystems and communities and creates a burden on future generations. But that doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Through Regeneration’s Salmon Gold initiative, we’re repurposing mine waste and restoring the land that's already been mined. And it’s just the beginning – we’re expanding to new locations and other minerals and forging new partnerships to provide responsibly sourced materials. Thanks Chicago Responsible Jewelry Conference for the opportunity to share this new approach to a global challenge. Finally, some good news about the environment. At Regeneration, we're helping solve the problem of mining waste by repurposing it and restoring land that's already been mined. Working with our partners, so far we've restored 1,825 linear meters of stream and 20 acres of upland habitat, helping return the earth closer to how it was before. See our website to find out more, or talk to us about how we can work together. #Regeneration. #BeginAgain.

From rhino sanctuaries to cabins 400m underground to our own Salmon Gold project - '102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground' by Peter Whitbread-Abrutat shows us that when a mine closes, it doesn't have to be the end of the story. It's an opportunity to begin again, by restoring habitat and finding ways to bring new life to communities. #beginagain #restoration
The story of the Eden Project is the story of a worked-out mine that was transformed into something incredible. But it’s not the only one. Published today, 102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground is a new book from the Eden Project, co-written by environmental specialist Dr Peter Whitbread-Abrutat and the Eden Project’s in-house editor, Dr Rob Lowe. Readers will take a tour of some of the world’s best examples of old mines being transformed to give the habitats and communities around them new futures. There are over 102 examples ranging from inspiring world tours of heritage and tourist attractions to wildlife habitats and new industry uses – it offers a glimpse into a promising future where the remnants of mining can be converted from a liability to an opportunity. When mines and quarries close, they shouldn’t become scars on the landscape or sources of pollution or leave their working communities on the brink of collapse. With imagination and determination, they can offer something radically different — hope. 102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground is a non-profit publication sponsored by Rio Tinto, Anglo American, BHP and Newmont Corporation with the support of The Land Trust, RESOLVE and ICMM. 102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground is available in the UK now 👇 https://bit.ly/3zA4NTf The book will be available worldwide from 1 September 2024. Please email 102@edenproject.com to receive further details of where to order it nearer the time.

Our Salmon Gold project remines gold from waste at old mine sites and reinvests earnings into restoring vital habitat for salmon and other fish. By combining remining with restoration, we can produce responsibly sourced materials and give these communities and lands a second chance.
