Today marks the one-year anniversary of Together for CHANGE™ and our commitment to STEM education in Nashville. To improve health outcomes and increase representation in STEM careers for people of African ancestry, we supported the launch of the Diaspora Human Genomics Institute (DHGI), as well as the establishment of its governance and operational processes, and assisted DHGI in the development of relationships with potential collaborators around the world. We also actively supported the STEM ecosystem in the Nashville metropolitan area by partnering with eight STEM-education-focused nonprofits. Through these collaborations, we’ve provided students with hands-on research experiences, offered professional development opportunities for educators, and fostered the growth of the Middle Tennessee Science and Engineering Fair. We thank the DHGI, and consortium members Meharry Medical College, AstraZeneca, Novo Nordisk and Roche for their continued collaboration.
