Here at Regions, we want to foster a culture of inclusion in the workplace and community where everyone feels welcome, included and valued. This week in celebration of Juneteenth, patients and colleagues were treated to food created by renowned Chef Lachelle Cunningham. Chef Cunningham’s exclusive recipes celebrate Black and African American culture. Her recipes for soul food reflect the rich history of ancestral African roots. Her work, with a mission focused on healing and social justice through food education, is impactful.

When a patient walks into Regions, our teams are there to provide great experiences for everyone in our care. One way we're doing that is by improving experiences for patients of color by offering a new range of hair and skin care products. The team of Tamyka Carr, nurse educator at Regions; Heather Walters, health equity program project manager at Regions; Lily J., registered nurse at Regions; and Montreena Medlock, patient financial services manager at Methodist Hospital (not pictured), devised a two-part solution: getting the right supplies and providing education. “I have relatives and friends who have been patients and expressed how their hair was damaged due to a lack of good products available,” says Tamika Smith, staffing coordinator at Regions. “These products are a phenomenal addition, and a great help to our patients of color.” Thanks to the collaboration of our dedicated colleagues, patients will now benefit from a wider range of products and an educated team to help make their experience even better.

We’re staying green and winning gold at Regions Hospital! We recently earned our sixth Top 25 Environmental Excellence award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental stewardship in health care. This award is Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor, accounting for a range of sustainability programs, including waste, chemicals, energy, water and climate. Regions also took home Circle of Excellence awards in Energy, Waste and Greening the Operating Room, which recognize work we’ve done on our campus to create a cleaner, healthier environment. And it’s not just us! HealthPartners earned 18 awards organization-wide, including its 10th consecutive Systems for Change award, and all eight hospitals received awards for showing dedication to sustainable practices. “A clean environment is an important foundation for health and well-being,” says Allison Egan, HealthPartners sustainability program manager. “These awards reflect the dedication, passion and support we have at our organization as we work to keep sustainability at the forefront of our efforts to move the health care industry forward.” Visit our news release to learn more: https://shorturl.at/rif0M

Twin sisters Val Harris and Vanessa Jones have been together most of their lives. This year, they’re both celebrating two major milestones: their 60th birthdays and 25 years of service at our hospital. Val works in environmental services, and Vanessa is a patient care assistant. Both work in the labor and delivery unit at our birth center, where they enjoy being around patients, families and each other. "It's the idea of giving birth," says Val, who has twin sons herself. “And bringing in a new life,” says Vanessa, finishing Val’s sentence. “It’s just special and something you never forget.” “Val and Vanessa live Regions’ values each day,” says Kelly Irlbeck, labor and delivery nurse manager. “Val’s dedicated to providing our patients with a clean space to deliver their babies. And Vanessa is there to care for families as they navigate adding a new member. Their relationship is unique and beautiful, and we’re lucky they’ve chosen to be part of our team.”
