Recently, our Outpatient Day Treatment Program gave back to our RHI community in their Life Skills group by making flower arrangements for the patients! Select patients who have experienced a brain injury or stroke will participate in a 12- week program working on cognitive and life skills to improve their independence in the community. For this project, one of our Program patients coordinated their family-owned flower shop, Indy Flowers, to come and teach the group members how to assemble gorgeous bouquets that they then distributed around the hospital. Patients used cognitive strategies taught in therapy to help organize, plan, and execute their project. RHI patients and staff loved the joy these bouquets brought to the units! ✨ Empowering the next generation of Hoosiers! ✨ On September 24th and 25th, RHI team members partnered with Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, a coalition of educators, organizations, and representatives of over 120 companies to support the 2024 JA JobSpark event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. Our team had the opportunity to collaborate with several other local hospitals to support the Health and Life Sciences section. This multi-day career expo impacts over 15,000 Indianapolis eighth graders by providing hands on learning experiences meant to "spark" an interest in their career options. The event also provides the students with a greater understanding of the coursework and skills required to be successful in a wide range of careers. Thank you to RHI therapists Kathy Ozolins and Lori Gordon for assisting in this year's event. Both provided interactive, job-specific experiences and shared their clinical expertise on careers in occupational and speech therapy. #RHIRehab #Careers #Healthcare #JAJobSparkIndy

🏡 Building a Safer Community! 🛠 In response to our recent Community Health Needs Assessment that identified unsafe housing conditions as a risk factor for injury and falls, we teamed up with SAWs (Servants At Work, Inc.) to make a difference! Friday, September 13th, RHI volunteers and SAW collaborated to sponsor and build a ramp for Laurie at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Laurie has been living with her daughter in Greenfield, Indiana because of difficulty with navigation into and out of her home. By providing safer access to homes, we’re working to prevent injuries and supporting healthier, more independent lives for Hoosiers! A huge thank you to our volunteers and the great team at Servants at Work who made this opportunity possible! Together, we’re creating a stronger, safer community for everyone! 🙌 #CommunityHealth #MobilityForAll #HealthImpact #HoosierHelpers #Volunteer

RHI was honored to welcome Senator J.D. Ford (Indiana Senate Democrats), along with Darren Covington (Darren Covington), Executive V.P. of the Indiana Pharmacy Association, for an insightful visit. Senator Ford engaged with our healthcare team, experiencing firsthand the exceptional rehabilitation services we provide. Dr. Angela Carbone, RHI Medical Director, and Mary Escalante, Executive Director of Pharmacy & Ancillary Services, led important discussions on the critical role of pharmacists in patient care and the community. The visit highlighted concerns about the impact of reduced reimbursements on access to vital medications and services for Hoosiers in need. #PharmacyCare #RehabilitationInnovation

"We have the ability to make a difference in people's loves. To be able to look back and feel that one has been successful in that endeavor is a very satisfying process." Congratulations to Dr. Mason R. Goodman on winning the 2024 George Sorrells Community Physician Award! Named in honor of George Sorells Jr., a 1962 graduate Indiana University School of Medicine, the Community Physician Award honors graduates whose skills and dedication are precious assets to their communities. Joining RHI in 1992, Dr. Goodman has been an integral part of the work being done at our hospital. His dedication to his patients and the work he provides is just the beginning to understanding his love for helping others. We are so proud to see Dr. Goodman receive this award and could not think of someone more deserving! https://lnkd.in/gaXyN-H3 #RHIRehab #IUHealth #healthcare #award #recognition
