Transforming lives and communities through entrepreneurship.

About us

Renaissance was launched in San Francisco in 1985 and has grown into a regional organization reaching deeply into some of the Bay Area’s communities of greatest need. We provide English and Spanish-language entrepreneurial training and support both online and through our five centers in South of Market and Bayview Hunters Point in San Francisco; Richmond (serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties); South San Francisco and East Palo Alto (serving San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties); and through our US SBA San Mateo County SBDC. Since our founding, we have served over 35,000 aspiring and established entrepreneurs who have started and grown nearly 20,000 businesses and created employment for more than 26,000 residents. Our clients are 93% very-low to moderate-income, 84% people of color, 45% immigrants and 77% women. Launching and managing a successful business is not easy, especially for those who face higher barriers to success. Renaissance partners with entrepreneurs to help them overcome these challenges and become leaders in their communities and fully participate in the dynamic economy of the San Francisco Bay Area. How feasible is my business idea? How much money do I need to start my business? Do I need a business plan? Where can I find other business owners in my industry or community that can help me succeed? These are the smart and savvy questions our clients ask themselves every day. Renaissance helps them get answers and provides access to resources and networks every entrepreneur needs to succeed. To learn more about Renaissance and our client success, visit www.rencenter.org.

    Congrats! Well deserved!

We’re excited to celebrate Dr. D'Andrea Robinson (Ngong), founder of Queens Gettin Lit!, at this year’s Small Business Big Impact Gala. Dr. Ngong's work goes beyond literacy—it’s about empowering young Black girls to embrace their heritage, find their voices, and build confidence. Queens Gettin Lit! is creating a space for these future leaders to see themselves reflected in the stories they read, and connect with their cultural roots in a powerful way. Join us in recognizing the incredible work Dr. Ngong and other entrepreneurs are doing to uplift their communities. Purchase your ticket or become a sponsor to support this important work. It's been nearly a week since we wrapped up our second annual Black Business Summit, and the excitement is still with us! A huge thank you to our very own Jerry Mathis, Timothy Russell, Nora Razón, and Gisel Martín for not only orchestrating this event but also for being active listeners in the communities we serve and working tirelessly to meet their needs. We also want to extend our gratitude to our wonderful CEO, Sharon Miller, for her relentless advocacy on behalf of small and Black-owned businesses throughout the Bay Area. A special shoutout to all of our guest speakers and panelists: Maurice Goodman, Chris Horton, Jermaine Carter-Gibson, Vaneese Johnson, Jonathan Makonnen, Hayley Village, and Marie Hampton. Your insights and contributions were invaluable. A special THANK YOU to our key partner, College of San Mateo, for not only hosting the event but also playing a crucial role in the planning and execution of the Black Business Summit. Your commitment to supporting local Black-owned businesses and understanding the significance of this event made all the difference. We also want to extend our gratitude to our other amazing collaborators, San Mateo SBDC, and The Inclusivity Project, for your partnership and support in making this event a success. Last but certainly not least, we want to acknowledge our Renaissance clients who attended and helped make this event possible. Your aspirations drive us. Your determination, resolve, and fight inspire us to show up and do our best every day. This work takes a village, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who works alongside us to make it all possible. We can’t wait to share the professional photos and event recap with you. #StayTuned!
