About us
Renaissance was launched in San Francisco in 1985 and has grown into a regional organization reaching deeply into some of the Bay Area’s communities of greatest need. We provide English and Spanish-language entrepreneurial training and support both online and through our five centers in South of Market and Bayview Hunters Point in San Francisco; Richmond (serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties); South San Francisco and East Palo Alto (serving San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties); and through our US SBA San Mateo County SBDC. Since our founding, we have served over 35,000 aspiring and established entrepreneurs who have started and grown nearly 20,000 businesses and created employment for more than 26,000 residents. Our clients are 93% very-low to moderate-income, 84% people of color, 45% immigrants and 77% women. Launching and managing a successful business is not easy, especially for those who face higher barriers to success. Renaissance partners with entrepreneurs to help them overcome these challenges and become leaders in their communities and fully participate in the dynamic economy of the San Francisco Bay Area. How feasible is my business idea? How much money do I need to start my business? Do I need a business plan? Where can I find other business owners in my industry or community that can help me succeed? These are the smart and savvy questions our clients ask themselves every day. Renaissance helps them get answers and provides access to resources and networks every entrepreneur needs to succeed. To learn more about Renaissance and our client success, visit www.rencenter.org.

As we wrap up Women’s History Month, huge shoutout to Sharon Miller and Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center for its, ‘Celebrating Women in Business: Panel and Pop-Up,’ hosted at The Women's Building in San Francisco. Nearly 200 attendees heard stories of innovation and resilience from dynamic women business owners who graduated from Renaissance’s training programs. Vendors lined the perimeter of the event and offered everything from nourishing, accessible food and beverages to earrings made out of fish scales to fashionable African attire. It was fun volunteering (and shopping 😊) with Women’s Leadership Council Co-Chairs, Lena Robinson and Theresa Noriega-Lum and fellow members, Stephanie Hill and Nancy Sheppard. Can’t wait to do it with you all again at the next Renaissance pop-up! #supportsmallbusinesses #shoplocal

In particular, we want to extend our deepest appreciation to our Peninsula team and give a special shoutout to our recently departed Program Manager, Amanda Anthony. This past week, our Peninsula team gathered at the LinkedIn Middlefield Campus for a pivotal meeting focused on our Vision Traction Organizer (VTO). It was a day dedicated to deep reflection, strategic planning, and aligning our collective efforts toward a unified and exciting future. 🚀 The discussions were rich, the collaboration was intense, and the outcomes were incredibly inspiring. Each team member brought their best ideas, passion, and commitment to the communities we serve. We're immensely thankful to LinkedIn for hosting us in such a beautiful and stimulating environment.
