Advancing Alaska's Clean Energy Future

About us

The mission of Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP) is to increase the development of renewable energy and promote energy efficiency in Alaska through collaboration, education, training and advocacy. REAP is a coalition of Alaska utilities, businesses, consumer groups, Alaska Native organizations, and municipal, state and federal entities with an interest in developing Alaska’s vast renewable energy resources. The size and diversity of REAP’s membership allows us to facilitate meaningful conversation and collaboration that contributes to long-lasting policy consensus and sustainable impact. REAP’s current initiatives include working to improve the efficiency of the Railbelt electricity grid, advancing microgrids through the Alaska Microgrid Partnership and the Islanded Grid Resource Center, educating K-12 students and teachers statewide through the AK Energy Smart and Wind for Schools curricula, identification of gaps and needed for workforce development in the field, and promoting holistic community development through the Sustainable Southeast Partnership. • Providing a platform to discuss what works and what doesn’t in energy projects throughout the state is critical to accelerate the pace of change and the success of future clean energy initiatives. As heat pump projects expand in Alaska, REAP's Alaska Network For Energy Education & Employment (ANEEE) program convened over 40 energy professionals at the Alaska Energy Training Group's most recent meeting to share best practices and training opportunities for heat pumps in cold climates. ❄️🌡️ The Alaska Energy Training Group is a quarterly meetup of energy professionals facilitated by REAP's Alaska Network for Energy Education and Employment (ANEEE) and in partnership with the Denali Commission. The group's mission is to improve coordination and collaboration in training, troubleshooting, workforce development, and technical assistance programs and investments throughout Alaska. • Coastal, remote, and island communities across Alaska face unique energy challenges because of their geographic isolation, which often contributes to issues with energy access, quality, affordability, and reliability. To make progress on addressing their energy challenges, 6 Alaskan communities have joined the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project (ETIPP)—a technical assistance program led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for which REAP is the Alaska regional partner. Through ETIPP, REAP works to connect communities with national laboratories and facilitate the delivery of technical assistance to advance locally led energy resilience projects. We are so excited to welcome the communities of Galena, Juneau, Kotlik, Kotzebue, Scammon Bay, and Saxman to the fourth ETIPP cohort! To learn more about the ETIPP program and the projects we’ll be supporting in these communities over the coming year, read the full NREL announcement here: https://lnkd.in/ed--sdcd
