This week, Dr. Keri Bergin, a third-year Fellow at RMA of New York at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, presented 'Assessing the Reproductive Potential of Late Mature Oocytes in Egg Freezing Cycles' at American Society for Reproductive Medicine - ASRM and was honored with the 2024 ASRM In Training Award. The retrospective cohort study assessed the reproductive potential of oocytes found to have delayed maturation. Dr. Bergin concluded that while late mature oocytes show lower fertilization rates compared to controls, those that do fertilize had high reproductive potential in terms of oocyte thaw survival, blastulation, and ploidy results. Patients, therefore, can be reassured that oocytes with delayed maturation can serve to benefit future family-building. Shoutout to the inspiring team behind the study: Rick Slifkin, MS, Carlos Alberto Hernández Nieto MD, Morgan Baird, MPH, Dmitry Gounko, B.S., M.A., Joseph Adam Lee, Chelsea Canon, Lucky Sekhon, M.D., and Alan B. Copperman, MD, FACOG. Stay tuned for more updates from ASRM!

A groundbreaking study conducted by RMA of New York, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and US Fertility's research team provides insights into the optimal number of eggs to thaw to increase the likelihood of forming 2 or more blastocysts. Just one of the 29 studies by the team at the 80th American Society for Reproductive Medicine - ASRM, this research addresses the growing demand to thaw frozen eggs as more patients return to fertility clinics to build families after planned egg freezing. The study analyzed data from 502 egg freeze-thaw cycles. Researchers aimed to identify the threshold number of eggs to thaw to maximize blastocyst formation. “This research offers a clearer path forward for patients who have undergone egg freezing and are now ready to build their families,” shares Emily Auran Clarke, M.D., lead author and RMA New York Fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “Our findings empower fertility specialists to make more informed decisions about the number of eggs to thaw, potentially minimizing excess embryo creation while optimizing future fertility options for their patients.” Read on here for the full breakdown: https://lnkd.in/dqdvftrk. ___ Carlos Alberto Hernández Nieto MD, Michelle Bayefsky, MD, Morgan Baird, MPH, Rick Slifkin, M.S., Joseph Adam Lee, Christine Briton-Jones, PhD, and Alan B.
