In 2013 Nyasha Musandu attended a policy- dialogue event in Jakarta, focused on evidence-based policymaking. The afternoon featured insights from policymakers and researchers, including Indonesia’s Minister Armida Alisjahbana. The session highlighted the complex balance policymakers face—integrating research with political and social demands. The key takeaways? Research should be actionable, and building mutual understanding is vital to bridging the gap between data and decisions. https://ow.ly/fI0k50TZMiM #R2Aarchive Global Development Network

Trust in science is crucial for informed decision-making, but the rise of misinformation and skepticism has made it challenging. The article from 2020, by Federico Germani, emphasizes the need for scientists to enhance communication skills, making complex research accessible without oversimplifying facts. Engaging the public with transparency and relevance can counter misinformation and bridge the gap between science and society. Effective science communication should be as foundational as the research itself, ensuring trust and impact across all levels. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eGsGpRP6 #misinformation #scicomms

This year Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week is focused on the urgent need to equip people with critical thinking skills in today’s digital ecosystem, something which aligns closely with the themes in Interaction’s Disinformation Toolkit 2.0 which Adam Fivenson showcased in 2022. The toolkit emphasizes strategies to recognize, analyze, and counteract misinformation, crucial for fostering an informed, resilient digital society. By addressing tactics to debunk and reduce the impact of false information, it is a vital resource in promoting information literacy, enabling individuals and communities to discern credible information from misinformation. Both the toolkit and MIL Week underscore the need for accessible, actionable resources that help users not just consume information, but critically evaluate it—a skill essential in today’s rapidly evolving information landscape. #GlobalMILWeek https://ow.ly/XLsf50TUNLZ

Youth Stories of Climate Resilience You have heard that Africa is the youngest continent with the fastest growing population. You surely have also heard about the continent hosting some of the world’s regions that are most affected by climate change, despite having contributed very little to causing it. Globally, we have, however, not heard and learned enough from African youth - the most important generation tasked with addressing climate change and related crises - issues that they did not create. APRI is empowering those stories untold. Our latest project on African Youth Resilience, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, showcases the work of 17 young climate professionals from eight African countries, exploring their individual stories, pathways and innovative solutions in the face of global challenges. 📝We are soon releasing our mixed-methods report, highlighting this youth-driven push for change. But that’s not all. 🎧To make sure you will have heard about it: We will also be launching Youth Climate Resilience - An Africa Hour Mini Series, a podcast bringing some of the report’s inspiring stories to life. Stay tuned for the first episodes, the full report, and join us for our digital launch event on November 7th (more info to come)! #YouthandResilienceProject #AfricanYouth #Resilience #ClimateAction #YouthLeadership #AfricaRising

Looking through the #R2Aarchive... International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)’s film "Meet Mr. Forest" profiled Zheng Fei, a Chinese entrepreneur promoting sustainable forestry in Mozambique. The initiative, part of the China-Africa Forest Governance Project, showcased how responsible investment can improve local livelihoods and protect forests. By leveraging platforms like Tencent, this project reached 360,000 viewers in China within 24 hours. It aimed to raise awareness about the impacts of Chinese investments in Africa’s forests while inspiring more sustainable practices. A great example of the power of film and visual storytelling. https://ow.ly/wTlo50TRq5j #Sustainability #Forestry #ChinaAfrica #Conservation #Investment
