  • Lizzie is an artist at RHD’s Fine Line Studios in Bridgeton, MO. Since joining the program, she says, “I have gotten better at painting, photography, and talking to people.” She expressed her appreciation for the kind staff who help her. Thanks to the money she makes through art sales, she is able to visit Michaels craft store for “more paints, canvases, and sketchbooks.” At RHD, we believe in the transformative power of art to uplift and empower. Our art programs in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Missouri help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities express their creativity and build confidence. Through these programs, artists gain the tools and support to create, sell their work, and thrive. Help artists like Lizzie express their unique vision and achieve their full potential! • October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. RHD is celebrating the incredible journey of participants like Ashe, who prove that with determination and support, anything is possible. Ashe's journey with RHD’s GROWTH program began in June 2019. Volunteering through structured activities like Meals on Wheels and the Lehigh Valley Zoo cleaning brigade, Ashe gained a sense of independence and a desire for self-improvement. Ashe worked closely with his Employment Specialist to build a resume and practice interviews. He gained experience at a local bowling alley, mastering customer service, cash management, and more. His perseverance paid off when he was invited to shadow at Burlington Coat Factory. His dedication impressed the management team, and they encouraged him to apply for a store associate position. In September 2024, Ashe officially joined Burlington’s team, marking a significant milestone in his journey toward financial independence. We’re so proud of Ashe’s resilience and hard work. His story is a true testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of inclusive employment opportunities. • October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. RHD is celebrating the incredible journey of participants like Edward, who prove that with determination and support, anything is possible. When Edward joined RHD’s GROWTH program in October 2023, he had a clear goal in mind—achieving work and financial independence. As a native of the Dominican Republic, Edward faced challenges with a language barrier and limited employment history. However, through the guidance of his dedicated RHD Employment Specialist, he worked hard to identify his job interests, build a resume, and hone his interview skills. Despite setbacks, Edward never gave up. His commitment led him to job shadow at Bardon Lanes, a local bowling alley in Easton, PA, where he developed valuable skills in cleaning, customer service, and more. Edward's perseverance paid off in June 2024, when he secured a job as a back-end associate at Forman Mills. His store manager praises Edward's work ethic and speed, showing just how far he's come! We’re so proud of Edward for his hard work and the positive impact he's made. His journey reminds us of the importance of inclusivity. • On Indigenous People’s Day, we respectfully acknowledge that the land on which RHD is headquartered, at 4700 Wissahickon Avenue in Philadelphia, is part of the traditional territory of the Lenape (Delaware) Nation. The Lenape people are the original stewards of this land, having cared for it for generations before colonization and displacement. We honor the Lenape as the enduring custodians of these lands and waters, and we recognize the lasting impact of colonization on Indigenous communities, including the Lenape. We are committed to learning from the Lenape and other Indigenous peoples as we work toward a more just and equitable future. Let’s all take a moment today to reflect on the histories and contributions of Indigenous cultures and our role in supporting justice for all. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LenapeLand #HonorAndRespect #RHDCommunity
