About us
Welcome to the Responsible Pledge LinkedIn Page! At Responsible Pledge, we understand that the world of agrifood systems is multifaceted, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Our mission is to navigate this complex landscape and drive positive change that benefits both society and the environment. On one side, agrifood systems are vital pillars of our society, nurturing us with essential nourishment and serving as the backbone of employment for over a billion people worldwide. Many farmers actively champion environmental stewardship, contributing to biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices that extend far beyond conventional measures like GDP. On the other hand, market, policy, and institutional inadequacies have rendered these systems fragile and unsustainable, exacerbating issues like climate change, resource degradation, and insufficient access to wholesome diets. Given the precarious state of our planet and the fragility of agrifood systems, we recognize the urgent need for prudent and mindful action. Join us in exploring the critical questions that drive our initiatives: How can we optimize the benefits of agrifood systems while effectively addressing their core challenges? How can we empower governments to sponsor impactful programs and support relevant stakeholders? How can agricultural producers ensure the renewal of crucial natural resources for future seasons? How can retailers promote nutritious foods, and how can consumers leverage their purchasing power to advocate for healthy and sustainable diets? And crucially, how might these decisions influence production costs and, ultimately, food prices? Together, through collective action and strategic collaboration, we can usher in a new era of responsible agrifood systems that nourish both people and the planet. Join us and be a part of the Responsible Pledge movement today. 🌾

Exciting Developments at Responsible Ag Pledge! 🌾 At Responsible Ag Pledge, we're on a mission to support and uplift US farmers and ranchers, preserving their cherished family structures. Here are two key strategies we're passionate about: Embrace Knowledge Transfer Both Ways: It's all about fostering a dynamic exchange of wisdom. We encourage the seasoned generation to share their invaluable knowledge with the younger one, while embracing fresh insights from the next wave. By building bridges between generations, we ensure a seamless transition of expertise, empowering family legacies to thrive. Lower Tech Barriers for Sharing Knowledge: Technology should be an ally, not a barrier. We're committed to breaking down tech hurdles to make knowledge sharing accessible and efficient. Our goal is to equip farmers and ranchers with user-friendly tools, ensuring that the transfer of wisdom remains smooth and effective. Global Brands and Retailers: Join Us in this Endeavor! We believe that the involvement of global brands and retailers is pivotal in ensuring the success of these initiatives - we have incredible brands in the US that have created programs like The North Face, a VF Company #ResponsibleDownStandard & #ResponsibleWoolStandard to be our beacon of hope. By collaborating with us at Responsible Ag Pledge, you can be a driving force in finding innovative ways to impart these essential tools to future generations. Let's work together to secure a sustainable and thriving future for family-based agriculture! https://lnkd.in/g4udMgUB. #ResponsibleAgPledge #Agriculture #KnowledgeTransfer #SustainableFarming #FutureGenerations #GlobalSupport

When we are looking into Surface vs Deep Soil Measurements: Depth Measured At: When assessing soil health, the depth at which measurements are taken plays a crucial role. Traditional farming practices, including conventional depth and No Till depths, often focus on the upper layers of soil, typically within the top 30cm. However, it is important to note that deep soil measurements, especially at 1m, provide a more comprehensive understanding of soil carbon dynamics. The impact of plowing on carbon distribution is evident, highlighting the need to go beyond surface-level assessments. Carbon Assessment Insights: Carbon measurement at 1m depth becomes particularly significant for obtaining active carbon data sets. While the top 30cm serves as a good predictor of immediate trends, deeper measurements offer insights into the long-term effects of practices such as transitioning from conventional farming to regenerative methods. Over time, regenerative farming practices, including the introduction of cover crops, contribute to enhanced soil health and the movement of carbon into deeper layers, facilitated by factors like increased earthworm activity. Soil Biological Analysis: Understanding soil as a complex and heterogeneous ecosystem is a challenge that requires a multi-faceted approach. While physical and chemical analyses of sand, clay, silt contents, water holding capacity, soil pH, total carbon, and total nitrogen are common, they only scratch the surface in terms of soil characterization. Limitations of Physical and Chemical Analyses: Physical and chemical analyses provide valuable information about soil properties but fall short in offering detailed insights into the biological structures and functions within the soil. Environmental conditions and disturbances can significantly impact the microbial populations and their functions, leading to changes in overall soil properties. Comprehensive Biological Assessments: To delve deeper into soil health, assessments must include the determination of microbial biomass, soil respiration rates, and nutrient transformation rates. These parameters provide a more nuanced understanding of the intricate microbial activities that underpin fundamental ecological processes in the soil. By incorporating these biological analyses, researchers and farmers alike can gain a more holistic view of soil health and make informed decisions to promote sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices.

I was tuned into the regenagri podcast this morning, it was an episode discussing the limitations of modern Soil Biological Analysis. It got me thinking about what is typically looked at in soil analysis - physical and chemical analyses—sand, clay, silt contents, water holding capacity, soil pH levels, total carbon, and total nitrogen contents. There is no denying that understanding these things are critical, and they provide valuable insights, but I cannot help but think that you miss the more nuanced biological structures crucial for a well-balanced land. Some points to ponder: • How many agri-food producers are incorporating detailed data structures to understand microbial biomass levels? • Are soil respiration rates and nutrient transformation rates under scrutiny? • How many are delving into comprehensive information on the bulk microbial activities driving fundamental ecological processes in your soil? I'm curious about those taking the analysis beyond the conventional 30cm depth, reaching down a meter for a more in-depth understanding of whats happening underground - especially during the shift from conventional farming to regenerative practices. #Regenerativeagriculture, is so much more than simply adopting a hashtag; it represents a unique approach beyond the boundaries of conventional #farming. #Regenerative agri involves grasping the intricate processes at play— #covercrops breaking down over winter, #nitrogenfixing crops replenishing naturally occurring nitrogen, and the pivotal role of earthworm activity in moving carbon into deeper layers of the #soil. If you're considering a move towards regenerative agriculture, let's connect, because we share the same mission. I'd love to hear about the shows you're attending—perhaps we can catch up over a coffee. By the way, who's planning to be at the #ColoradoFarmShow in January, our team at Control Union will have a booth and we'd love to talk about what your team is focused on this year?
