A testimony from BH, a Veteran, and a former reStart program participant. BH has experienced an incredible transformation, from homelessness to housing and he’s here to share his journey! In 2023, BH's life took a turn, leading him into homelessness. It was a tough time filled with uncertainty and struggles, but everything changed when he found the reStart team. “They’re tremendous,” he says. “They always checked in on me and kept me accountable, even after I completed the program. They made sure I got into a job and the transportation I needed to get there every day. That support was everything.” Now, BH is thriving as a paraprofessional at an elementary school, where he’s making a difference in the lives of young students. “Your investment in reStart is helping people,” he explains. “Their programs run like a well-oiled machine, giving people hope, motivation, and the structure to succeed.” Reflecting on his journey, BH shares, “The support from donors truly shows that people care. It filled me with hope and helped me regain my confidence and self-esteem. To all veterans facing similar struggles, remember that there are resources available and people who genuinely want to help you. This is only a temporary phase, like a season that will pass. I’ve been where you are, and I promise it can get better.” To continue supporting veterans like BH, join us on November 16th for our Champion Challenge! Together, we can raise critical funds for our veterans program and help more individuals on their journey from homelessness to housing. About us
Mission: To empower all people facing or experiencing homelessness by providing housing services that inspire hope. Vision: Leading the way to end homelessness in Kansas City. Our Legacy: For over 40 years, reStart has provided Kansas City’s most vulnerable population with a continuum of housing services. Our unique programming allows us to act as the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations including singles, families, couples, individuals experiencing mental health illnesses, LGBTQ+ identifying individuals, veterans, unaccompanied youth, non-traditional families and persons with HIV/AIDS. Our organization’s culture of inclusion allows us to provide services to everyone at risk or currently experiencing homelessness. We accept people as they are and don’t require those asking for help to attest to a differing belief, religious affiliation, or traditional family structure.

reStart supporters, Johnson County residents, and new friends, please support us as we work to provide housing and dignity-based services to Johnson County community members in need. reStart has applied to the City of Lenexa for a Special Use Permit to operate a Homeless Services Center at 95th and I-35 that will consist of 50 non-congregate rooms of adult shelter and 25 studio units of transitional housing. Just this morning, Lenexa staff posted that they unofficially are recommending denial of the SUP; they will not provide us with a report as to why until Aug. 22nd. We will be presenting at the Planning Commission and Council, and they can still approve it! So we need your help! Please consider: - Sending emails of support to the Lenexa City Council members (emails in graphic). -Attend the planning commission meeting on Aug. 26th at 7pm. -Register to speak in support of reStart and HSC at the Aug. 26th meeting.
