“One of the important things that happened in the Pruitt case was that the scientific community actually came together to do the hard work of figuring out what happened and also ensuring as little collateral damage happened as possible.” Our Ivan Oransky speaks with Sarah Treleaven of The Walrus

📢 Webinar Alert *Crossref and CREC: How publishers can meet the CREC recommendations using open infrastructure* 📅 Wednesday, 30 October When a research work undergoes changes after publication (e.g. retraction, correction, withdrawal), it is imperative that changes are reflected accurately in the scholarly record, so that readers can find and cite the most up-to-date work. Earlier this year, NISO’s Communication of Retractions, Removals, and Expressions of Concern (CREC) working group published a Recommended Practice to share best practices for the creation, transfer, and display of metadata related to retractions, removals, or expressions of concern. Crossref encourages its members to record updates in their metadata and can help them implement the CREC recommendations. This session will be suitable for publishers, and others who would like to meet key aspects of the recommendations and use Crossref infrastructure to demonstrate their commitment to upholding the integrity of the scholarly record. Looking forward to taking part in this #pharmsci360 plenary with Colby Vorland. Sorry that travel snafus mean Brian Nosek can't join us. Bonus: The chance to meet Tu Van Duong and talk scientific sleuthing.

“Columbia, like every institution, probably should take a hard look at what’s going on and see whether there’s something about the way they are supervising their leading researchers or creating an environment where people feel some pressure or something like that, because it’s not the first time,” said Dr. Ivan Oransky, the editor in chief of The Transmitter and a founder of Retraction Watch, which keeps a database of over 50,000 retracted papers. Our co-founder speaks with The New York Times.
