Over the past two days we held back-to-back Grand Opening celebrations for our newest locations in Delray Beach and Lauderhill, Florida, as we continue our growth trajectory! Leading this growth is a series of new location openings and acquisitions through Retro Fitness' Project LIFT initiative, which received an investment from the BlackRock Impact Opportunities in 2022. We have a goal to open 500 health clubs in 50 undercapitalized communities across the U.S. over five years. BlackRock Impact Opportunities’ investment in Retro Fitness will expand the brand’s reach in four separate geographies and represents one of the largest de novo development deals in the fitness industry. In the past three months, Retro Fitness has used the funds to open three new clubs (pictured below) in Pasadena, Texas, and Delray Beach and Lauderhill, Florida, which brings the BIO platform total to just under 20 open Retro locations by year’s end. Along with its new openings, Retro Fitness has acquired existing clubs over the past six months in Bayshore, Ronkonkoma, and Deer Park, New York, as well as Wellington and Tamarac, Florida. Additionally, Retro Fitness has recently undergone a significant brand transformation, bringing an upleveled look, feel and member experience to all its new locations. Significant renovations have likewise been made to all its acquired locations. “We are very pleased with the feedback we have received on the new look and feel of our clubs. We believe the transformation of the brand is just part of what has attracted area developers and investors to Retro Fitness,” said Andrew Alfano, CEO of Retro Fitness. “We are fielding a significant amount of interest from other industries – specifically the restaurant space – which recognizes us for high margins, low complexity, recurring revenue and multiple revenue streams.” In addition to the investment from BlackRock Impact Opportunities, Retro Fitness has also inked agreements with other successful area developers: ● Pro Fit Management, led by Munjal Patel, Payal Parikh and Gopal Patel, is expanding the brand into northern New Jersey, with its first club opened in Montclair on July 25. ● Momentum Enterprises, Inc., led by Ryan Debin (recently featured on thecover of Multi-Unit Franchisee) and backed by Boston-based Arena Capital Partners, is developing the Boston area, with its first club opening in Cambridge on Aug. 12. “We are proud that our investment in Retro Fitness on behalf of our clients has benefitted communities in Texas, Florida and New York, and are pleased to continue supporting the company and Project LIFT through this next stage of growth,” said Joseph Acevedo, Managing Director, BlackRock Impact Opportunities.
