Every learner deserves to feel supported and empowered. As we celebrate Mês de Cultura, we want to highlight how some of our Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) partners are making an impact on their Hispanic and Latinx students. At Texas State University, being an HSI is deeply woven into their culture and strategies. Through intentional reflection and alignment with those they serve, Texas State fosters identity development, social mobility, and equitable access to education. The institution maximizes federal funding to enhance program quality, institutional stability, and opportunities for all students. Learn more about Texas State University: https://hsi.txst.edu/ The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), an HSI and R1 research university, is committed to advancing Hispanic student success. By combining their focus on Hispanic serving initiatives and research excellence, UTSA opens doors to socioeconomic growth, leadership, and professional success for students. UTSA also proudly serves as a founding member of the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities. Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to reflect on Indigenous communities’ rich cultures, histories, and contributions. It’s a reminder of the importance of acknowledging the past and advocating for a future that respects and highlights Indigenous voices. According to a November 2023 report from the Postsecondary National Policy Institute, only 16.8% of American Indian or Alaskan Native residents aged 25 or older had earned a bachelor’s degree or higher compared to the national rate of 35.7%. Native American students are also overrepresented in the some college, no credential population. Working in partnership with states, systems, and colleges and universities, we’re committed to closing these educational gaps and ensuring that all adult learners—including Native and Indigenous people—have the support and resources they need to achieve their educational goals. During Mês de Cultura, also known as Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the diversity, and uniqueness of Latin culture. Marissa Rodriguez, ReUp’s Marketplace Project Analyst, shares her experience of working at ReUp, where the Latinidad Employee Resource Group (ERG) is given space to celebrate and embrace their identity. “As a proud Mexican-American and Chicana, it is super valuable to work at a company like ReUp, where our Latinidad ERG group is given the space to celebrate and embrace who we are,” says Marissa. “In a world that often pressures us to assimilate, it can be difficult to stay connected to our roots—especially at work, where we spend so much of our time. But here at ReUp, we’re encouraged to show up as our authentic selves and celebrate all the facets of our culture. Through Mês de Cultura, we not only bring awareness to our diversity but also create a space where we honor and uplift each other. It’s a reminder that our diversity is our strength, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that values that.” #MesDeCultura #LatinHeritage #Inclusivity

At ReUp, we know how important it is to find a community that understands your background and experiences. For Jesserie Nevarez, Quality Operations Coordinator at ReUp, attending University of California Merced, a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), made all the difference. Surrounded by peers and staff who shared her culture and challenges, she found relatable role models who guided her through the complexities of being a first-generation student. “This unique support network not only made me feel seen and understood,” says Jesserie, “but also helped me navigate my academic journey with confidence.” HSI’s are more than just institutions—they are lifelines for students like Jesserie, providing support networks that encourage growth and confidence. #HigherEd #HSI #FirstGen #Support

Our hearts go out to our partners and the entire community in western North Carolina and surrounding areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. With widespread power and water outages, and roads closed, it is an incredibly challenging time. Our thoughts are with Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina Asheville, and Western Carolina University as they navigate this difficult period. While recovery efforts are underway, we remain committed to supporting these institutions and their students in any way we can. #CommunitySupport #HigherEd #HurricaneHelene Christina Savas Ethan Penland
