Transparency is an essential American Best Practice for a functioning society. For Riecken Community Libraries, it means adopting and implementing library processes and procedures that increase access to information that is readily available and easy to understand. Each Riecken library has a board trained in transparent operations and a transparency corner illustrating its importance to the library. Riecken Community Libraries' fourth new library in the 2023-2024 period is now expected to open in September! Construction at the library at Santa Catarina de San Marcos continues to advance, despite a heavy rainy season, hurricane Beryl, and the entry of La Nina conditions that have slowed construction. Rain has also made several key roads to the region temporarily impassable. Our hope is that this new library becomes a resource for the many migrants making their way to the US, who pass through Santa Catarina, located near the Mexican border with Guatemala. #CommunityLibraries #SantaCatarina #Guatemala https://lnkd.in/gXkG37FW

"This project is proof of what we can achieve when we work together. This building is much more than a library; it is a center of education, community and hope for everyone, especially for the children of El Tejar, and with your efforts it will be for many years to come!" - Adrian Ridner, Riecken Board Member These words reflected the importance of a new USAID/ASHA-funded Riecken Library, visited by several Friends of Riecken Foundation in El Tejar, Chimantenango, Guatemala in January. From their base in Antigua, the group also visited Mundo Del Saber Library in Parramos, where several Riecken libraries shared information about their programs. #RieckenCommunityLibraries #USAID/ASHA #AccesstoInformation
