About us

Rigetti Computing is building the world’s most powerful computers to help solve humanity’s most pressing and important problems. These systems will perform computations that today’s fastest supercomputers are incapable of — unlocking entirely new classes of problems and offering a direct path to solutions. We believe quantum computing is going to significantly affect health care, how we treat disease, how we generate energy, and how we feed humanity. Our superconducting quantum computing systems are available over the cloud via Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services. We were founded in 2013 by Chad Rigetti. We are located in Berkeley and Fremont, California, and have employees based all over the world.

This week kicks off the American Physical Society’s March Meeting! We’ll be giving talks throughout the week on our research to accelerate the development of our quantum computing capabilities. We’re also excited to talk with the quantum community about the 9-qubit Novera™ QPU, Rigetti’s first commercially available QPU. The Novera QPU enables you to pursue your quantum research with hands-on access to the same technology we use in our most powerful cloud-deployed QPUs. Make sure to stop by Booth #1302 if you’re at March Meeting to learn more about the Novera QPU — and how you can advance your quantum computing research today. 🎤 View our March Meeting talk schedule here: https://lnkd.in/gESEdg9n ➡ Learn more about the Novera QPU here: https://lnkd.in/gM_eZBTJ

We are excited to announce that our paper introducing our novel fabrication technique, Alternating-Bias Assisted Annealing (ABAA), was published earlier this week in Nature Communications Materials. ABAA allows for more precise qubit frequency targeting, thereby enabling improved execution of 2-qubit gates and further improvements in performance. This technique is now being leveraged to fabricate chips for Rigetti QPUs, including the Novera™ QPU and the upcoming Ankaa™-3 system. Want to learn more? ➡ Our Senior Principal Scientist, Dave Pappas, offers a closer look at how ABAA works in a new blog post: https://lnkd.in/e9_dKUmd ➡ Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eFnpz6qg ➡ Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eQU3XiG4

The on-premises QPU ecosystem continues to grow as more organizations seek to accelerate their quantum computing capabilities. Rigetti’s 9-qubit Novera™ QPU is ideal for end users who need hands-on access to state-of-art quantum technology to pursue fundamental research across areas such as optimizing control systems, designing and characterizing gates, mitigating decoherence, and developing more efficient quantum algorithms. Shortly after launching the Novera QPU, we introduced the Novera QPU Partner Program, an ecosystem of quantum computing hardware, software and service providers who build and offer integral components of a functional quantum computing system. Novera QPU customers who need control systems, a dilution refrigerator, quantum computing software tools, or integration services can integrate their Novera QPU with Novera QPU Partners’ technology with the assurance of compatibility and quality. Today, we are thrilled to welcome the newest members to the Novera QPU Partner Program: Maybell Quantum: Maybell is a global leader in quantum infrastructure, offering unmatched performance and innovation. Their cryogenic platforms – the Fridge and the Big Fridge – offer unmatched reliability, deployability, and ease of use. Qblox: Qblox is a leading provider of scalable and modular quantum control stacks. Qblox operates at the frontier of the quantum revolution in supporting academic and industrial labs worldwide with quantum control electronics. We had the pleasure of hosting a group of students enrolled in Summer Springboard’s Physics & Quantum Computing pre-college program this week. In addition to an enriching curriculum, the group was able to see first-hand what it’s like to work in a quantum computing company and hear directly from our team about their path in the field. We are proud to be able to support such a great program and inspire students to pursue careers in quantum computing!

📢 New work from Rigetti! 📢 The small number of qubits available on current quantum computers is an important challenge that must be overcome to deliver utility in quantum optimization. Relevant real-world optimization problems typically have several thousands of variables, which can be handled by heuristic classical solvers better than quantum solvers today. However, adding more qubits to quantum computers has practical challenges due to increased hardware noise. In our newly released manuscript (https://lnkd.in/gbNQ5Wf3), we investigate a novel qubit-efficient method for quantum optimization, which uses a many-to-one mapping of N classical variables to q qubits, where q<N, and stores the N variables in an entangled wave function of the q qubits. Further, we develop and benchmark a variational qubit-efficient algorithm that uses this scheme for quantum optimization, and demonstrate a proof-of-principle implementation of the algorithm on our Ankaa™-9Q-3 system. Numerical benchmarks of the algorithm find performance comparable to conventional variational quantum algorithms with N qubits, despite requiring significantly fewer qubits. The method we developed could benefit near-term intermediate scale quantum devices as well as future fault-tolerant small-scale quantum computers. This work was supported by the IMPAQT program of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
