“DEI” has become a buzzword that I hear thrown around a lot. But when you take a close look at the leadership teams of most General Contractors, you rarely see women, people of color and other minorities represented. Why is this? While I do believe there is a genuine interest in changing this by most companies, there are some cultural and structural factors that hinder opportunities for diverse candidates to rise the ranks. 👉 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗚𝗮𝗽𝘀: Leadership progression often requires strong mentorship. Diverse candidates may not have access to the same networks, mentors, or champions within the company, making it harder for them to rise to leadership positions. 👉 𝗨𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝘀: Even with good intentions, unconscious bias can play a role in hiring and promoting leaders. Decision-makers may gravitate toward those with similar experiences, which often leads to a lack of diversity at the top. 👉 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: The industry's culture can sometimes be less inclusive, making it difficult for women to feel fully supported or encouraged to pursue leadership. Challenges like work-life balance in a traditionally demanding industry may also discourage women from seeking top positions. 👉 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀: Many construction companies don’t have intentional diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in place to support the development of underrepresented talent into leadership roles. Without these structures, it becomes more challenging to identify and promote diverse candidates. The industry is making strides in addressing these challenges, but it requires a concerted effort to break these patterns, starting from how talent is recruited, mentored, and promoted. By focusing on creating more inclusive pathways, the construction industry can build more diverse leadership teams that reflect the communities they serve. 🔗 Why Good Company Culture = Employee Retention 🔗 Yes, the occasional pizza party is nice, but if you really want to keep people around, you need to have a strong company culture. Here’s why: 1️⃣ Happy People = Long-Term People: When employees feel supported, appreciated, and valued, they’re way more likely to stay. 2️⃣ Work-Life Balance is a Thing!: In a culture where work-life balance is more than just a buzzword, employees know it’s okay to take a breather. People stick around when they know they won’t burn out! 🔥 3️⃣ Growth Opportunities: If your culture promotes personal and professional growth, people won’t just want to stay—they’ll want to grow WITH you. 🌱📈 4️⃣ Work Friends are the Best Friends: The truth is, people spend more time with their colleagues than they do with their families. A great culture turns colleagues into a community, and who wants to leave that behind? 🎉👯♂️ A positive culture doesn’t just attract talent—it keeps them. People stay where they feel connected, supported, and most importantly where they actually want to be! What’s the one thing you love most about your company’s culture? Drop it in the comments! 👇 #CompanyCulture #EmployeeRetention #StayHappyStayLoyal #GrowthMindset

    Networking 101!!

🌟 Networking Doesn’t Have to Be Awkward...Here's How to Make It Fun! 🌟 Let’s be real—networking can sometimes feel like showing up at a party where you don’t know anyone, clutching your drink, and wondering how long until you can make a graceful exit. Should I hide in the bathroom for a while? 🤔 But it doesn’t have to be that way! 💃🕺 Here are a few tips to help you network like a pro (and actually enjoy it!): 1️⃣ Be Yourself (but the best version): Skip the corporate jargon and just be human. People appreciate authenticity way more than a polished elevator pitch. 2️⃣ Ask Questions: It's not all about talking. Ask about their career journey, hobbies, or even what book they're reading. It’s amazing how much easier conversations get when you show genuine interest! 📚 3️⃣ Follow Up with a Smile (and maybe a meme): After meeting someone, send a quick follow-up message. Bonus points if you include a meme or something lighthearted to break the ice! 😄 4️⃣ Join Groups or Events That Actually Interest You: Stop forcing yourself into rooms that bore you! Find groups that share your passions—professional or personal. Talking about things you love will make connecting 10x easier! Remember: Networking is just connecting with people, not selling yourself like a product. Relax, have fun, and see where the conversation takes you! Now get out there! Be brave and make those connections! ✨🌐 #Networking #CareerTips #BeYourself #DontHideInTheBathroom #RecruiterLife
