Check out Fearless Fellow Morgan Guess, founder of the Be Kind Official Kindness License Plate and a 2021 Call For Kindness Fellow! Morgan became a prominent voice for anti-bullying after experiencing bullying when she was just 8 years old. Her parents told her bad things are going to happen in life and that she could ignore what happened, she could blame others, or she could be a part of creating positive change. Since then, Morgan successfully lobbied the Kentucky General Assembly for legislation that now protects all 640,000 public school students, sponsored and engaged volunteers for three kindness murals, and led an effort to write 12,000 kindness letters so every student in her school district would start the school year with a letter of support. In early 2021, Morgan appeared before the Kentucky Special License Plate Committee for approval of an official Be Kind Kentucky license plate, which became available in early 2023. All proceeds will go toward her state's 17-youth mental health drop-in centers, and if purchased by just 10% of Kentucky vehicles, Morgan will be able to donate $1.7 million over the next decade to help young people get the mental health services they need! Check out Fearless Fellow Sunya Afrasiabi, creator of the Bridges From Borders #MyStory Program, a 2022 Call For Kindness Fellow, and a 2023 Continuation Grant Recipient! The BFB #MyStory program is a student empowerment storytelling project. This program develops immigrant narratives through the combination of oral history, narrative therapy, and portrait exhibit to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity. In #MyStory, volunteers match with local immigrant or refugee storytellers to share their stories through a variety of mediums including exhibits, books, videos, and more. Sunya launched the #MyStory Podcast where student volunteers host each episode and interview storytellers who come from diverse backgrounds. Check out Fearless Fellows Michelle Qiao, founder of Stories to Heal, and Panolu Coleman, founder of Nā Kukui O Waimānalo! Michelle started Stories to Heal when she noticed a lack in representation of AAPI characters in the works she would engage with in school. Her organization shares the stories of Asian American and Pacific Islanders through art, writing, and poetry. Michelle spoke with the Sincerely Hueman podcast about how Stories to Heal has been working to create more representation in literature. Panolu started Nā Kukui O Waimānalo to inspire the youth of Waimānalo and expand their cultural identity and leadership abilities. The program focuses on connecting these youth to their culture, wahi pana (sacred places), self-identity, and their overall well-being. When speaking with the Sincerely Hueman podcast, Panolu said that “being in uncomfortable spaces is only a benefit... It encourages people to make changes, because when we're uncomfortable, we don't like sitting.
