EPISODE II [ZIMBABWE] : MEET WILBERT MACHOBA (FOUNDER & CEO - CHILBUR CHEMICALS) Wilbert Machoba is a 20 year old young African entrepreneur, mostly known as the CEO and founder of Chilbur Chemicals Pvt Ltd. He is currently doing Biomedical Engineering undergraduate degree at University of Zimbabwe. 2. Wilbert was inspired by bis passion in Chemistry which he studied at Excellent Tutorials College. He wants to solve some problems regarding chemicals in Africa. During his research he found out that many companies import chemicals from Western Countries rather than manufacturing them, that's where the idea of starting a chemical manufacturing company started. 3. Starting a company in Science and Technology field is a bit hard since there are lot of research. It's capital intensive and since it's a new brand we're still gaining trust from our customers. The challenge is that we still have to be work with EMA so that they can confirm that our products are not causing an environmental degradation since chemicals are hazardous. 4. So far, we don't have a financial support. It's a self-funded project but we're looking forward for those who want to support. 5. There are 3 employees and 2 directors. 6. As Africa, we lack support within us, we trust Europeans and Americans more than our young talented African Entrepreneurs hence the journey to be an entrepreneur in Africa is a bit hard, but when you choose the road, you have to keep moving no-matter how slow you're. Africa can be changed; Innovation and patience always win the race. 7. You have to start, starting is the only important thing, you'll learn everything as you move forward. Find what you're passionate with, because desire and passion for what you're doing always keeps it alive. 8. In the next 5 years, Chilbur will have some branches, in our surrounding countries for example Zambia, South Africa and Botswana. That's our vision for the next 5 years. EPISODE 1 [SOUTH AFRICA]: BAVUKILE VILANE (CEO & FOUNDER - WHATSNXT) 4. Have you secured any funding, support or it's a self-funded project?   Self-funded, and now that I left my Job to fully work on it, I don’t know where the money will come from as I am burning my savings. I believe someone who believes in what we are building will invest in us. I always tell other entrepreneurs, if you aren’t willing to invest in yourself, you can’t expect others to invest in you. I have put everything into Whatsnxt.    5. How many people/employees/partners on the team?   I would say about 4 core team members, and an additional 4 who assist where they can. So, a team of 8. But as mentioned, many still have a lot going on personally and professionally and can only dedicate so much time because they believe in the vision.    6. What do you see as the biggest drawback in Africa for startups to thrive?   Access to capital/ funding for sure - and I know it’s quite the debate and sometime unpopular opinion but look at all the successful startup ecosystems in the world and then see how much funding opportunities is available. [Money does indeed make the world go round]    7. What words of motivation would like to give to other young Africans out there willing to walk the entrepreneurial path?   IF YOU’RE GOING TO START, GO ALL THE WAY, OTHERWISE DON’T EVEN START AT ALL. That is a line from one of my favourite Chales Bukowski poems. If you want to pursue entrepreneurship you need to be willing to go all the way. It’s not going to be easy, but it will be worth it.    8. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?   Haha, hey I am just trying to make it to next week here. I want to be running multiple enterprises in 5 years’ time. Whatsnxt is only one idea from many and I just want to start executing and not just dreaming. Of course, I will do them one at a time because I believe in focus but I hope to have many more companies up and running in 5 years’ time.    I have also always had a dream to build a school. II always worked towards 2026 but I have learnt that these sorts of goals should be fluid and flexible, “Life is what happens when we are too busy making plan,” as John Lennon once said. Wherever I am in 5 years, I don’t really care, as long as I have significant growth and as an individual and I am adding value and leaving an impact everywhere I go. EPISODE 1: MEET BAVUKILE VILANE (FOUNDER & CEO - WHATSNXT GLOBAL).   1. Who is Bavukile Vilane? (Include Age & Education)   Bavukile Vilane, 22, called Bavu by most. A student to some, consultant to others and the founder of Whatsnxt. As a driven software engineering student, I'm passionate about leveraging technology to drive positive change. With a strong problem-solving mindset, I constantly seek innovative solutions to complex challenges. Beyond coding, I'm drawn to business and entrepreneurship, aiming to build transformative platforms (like Whatsnxt). Inspired by visionaries like Steve Jobs, I believe in the power of daring to make a difference. I hope that together as the Youth on the African Continent we can shape the future through technology, innovation, and strategic thinking. I am committed to pursuing projects and initiatives that have the potential to transform industries and improve lives.   2. What inspired you to start Whatsnxt Global? Feeling left behind and never really knowing what is next for me… As Africans we are “What’s Last” and by that, I mean things have to start everywhere else before we get it here. How can we become the next, build the next, set the trends and have conversations and answers to question “what is next” - that is why we are building Whatsnxt Global. The app is only a small part, The app is an innovative platform designed to reshape how people discover and experience events. However, it was founded with a vision to go beyond a traditional event app, We aren’t building another Eventbrite etc. Whatsnxt aims to foster meaningful conversations and interactions. The platform facilitates the exploration of diverse events, from parties to conferences, connecting users to a wide array of experiences. With a focus on disrupting the events industry, Whatsnxt seeks to empower local artists and events, providing a global stage. The platform's unique features, including Vibe Check for user-generated event sharing, set it apart, creating a dynamic community around the question: What's next? I hope many more people ask this question and can now have conversations about what they think is next.    3. How has the journey been so far? (Societal, economic and support challenges if any)   I think Entrepreneurship is one of the loneliest paths you can pursue. All your “friends” who you thought would support you disappear. The people you thought would invest in you disappear. I can go on and on but it is difficult. I have had to go through a lot in life coming from a humble background but the entrepreneurship journey alone has been by the hardest. However, Vusi said it best when he said, “It’s going to be much harder than you think. It’s going to take much longer than you think. And you’re going to suffer much more than you expect, but there will be nothing worth it more than that one thing. So go after it!”
