The exhibition, Shifting Shorelines: Art, Industry, and Ecology along the Hudson River, is now open at the Wallach Art Gallery!🎨🌍 This exhibition dives deep into how human activity has shaped the Hudson River and its shoreline, through an array of paintings, prints, sculpture, film, and photography. Riverkeeper is proud to have made several contributions, including an insightful essay by our President, Tracy Brown. 🌿 Last weekend, you showed up strong to help restore our waterways! Along Little Falls, a stream by Newburgh’s Quassaick Creek, volunteers cared for over 100 native trees and shrubs planted earlier this year and cleared invasive knotweed to help them thrive 🌳 Planting trees has huge benefits for local ecosystems: stabilizing stream buffers, providing cooler waters for aquatic life, improving water quality, reducing flooding, and creating habitat. A huge shoutout to IBEW Local 363, Newburgh Parks Conservancy EJ Fellows, and the Quassaick Creek Watershed Alliance for your hard work! 🙌 We also successfully held our second Sweep cleanup in Borough Park, Brooklyn in partnership with the Office of City Council Member Susan Zhuang, where volunteers removed 940 pounds of trash!
