Land subsidence—where the ground sinks—adds another layer of risk to our coastal infrastructure and operations. The combined effect of sea level rise and land subsidence could intensify flooding and threaten critical assets.  Coastal communities along the US East Coast are particularly at risk to multiple hazards associated with land subsidence, made worse by the coast's high population density and asset concentration.
