INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY | On International Women’s Day, we recognise the skill, dedication, and contributions of women in the automotive sector. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action”, is a reminder that progress towards gender equality requires ongoing commitment—and MIWA is dedicated to being part of that change. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Women make up less than a quarter of the automotive workforce globally, yet workshops and businesses that embrace diversity see higher productivity, innovation, and customer satisfaction. It’s time to change that. Yet, as Marta García, Executive President of Women's Worldwide Car Of The Year (WWCOTY), highlights, the industry must do more to ensure women are fully included in the automotive sector: “We need to create reference models featuring women and give them a voice. This is more important than it seems if we want to increase women’s participation in the automotive industry. There is room for women. The sector will be losing half of the available talent if it does not open its doors to them and promote their inclusion.” (Source: https://vist.ly/3mwri7q ) She also highlights that while women occupy only 25–30% of jobs in the sector worldwide, the opportunities extend far beyond engineering. From communications and logistics to sales, marketing, HR, and business management, there is room for women to excel. MIWA also encourages ongoing training and mentorship to help women thrive in automotive careers. This International Women’s Day, let’s not just recognise the progress—we must push for more! 💬 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆? WALK THE TALK | Leadership in the automotive industry goes beyond technical expertise—it’s about shaping the future through action. On 1 March 2025, MIWA Chairperson Dewald Ranft and MIWA member Andrey Louwrens, alongside fellow industry professionals, took part in a 70km walk around Bloemfontein—not just as a test of endurance, but as a commitment to uplifting communities and supporting meaningful change. They walked in solidarity and faith, inspired by the story of Jericho—a reminder that breaking down barriers requires action, unity, and purpose. “Just as a brand is defined by the values of its people, we wanted to support this initiative to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to supporting and uplifting communities in a way that goes beyond just business.” said Dewald. By supporting initiatives like this, MIWA reinforces its commitment to making a real impact beyond workshops. Funds raised for the Biker’s Church in Bloemfontein will help uplift underprivileged community members, further aligning with MIWA’s values of integrity and leadership. “Through participation in meaningful initiatives like this, MIWA hopes to continue to uphold the values that set it apart—integrity, leadership, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the communities in which it operates,” said Dewald. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the automotive industry isn’t just a checkbox—it’s an investment in people, communities, and long-term industry growth. When businesses step up, they not only strengthen communities but also foster trust, loyalty, and industry-wide sustainability. A huge well done to everyone involved in this meaningful initiative! INVESTING IN APPRENTICESHIPS = STRENGTHENING THE INDUSTRY | The skills gap in the automotive sector isn’t just a future problem—it’s a current challenge that affects workshop efficiency, service quality, and long-term industry growth. That’s why Master M, a MIWA- and RMI-accredited workshop, is taking action by investing in apprenticeships—a move that will strengthen both its workforce and the industry as a whole. Co-founded by Nicholas Daya and Lance Faulmann, Master M specialises in BMW, Mini, and Rolls Royce repairs across two locations in Rivergate, Sunningdale, and Stonewood, Kraaifontein. Now, they are preparing to welcome their first apprentices from the College of Cape Town, providing hands-on, real-world experience. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 ✅ 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝗽: The automotive industry is evolving, and modern vehicles require technicians with up-to-date training in diagnostics, hybrid systems, and advanced repair techniques. Apprenticeships ensure the next generation is equipped to meet this demand. ✅ 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Apprenticeships are more than just training—they’re a long-term investment in leadership development. Many successful workshop owners started as apprentices, and structured training helps grow talent from within. ✅ 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: A well-trained team isn’t just good for the industry—it’s good for business. Skilled apprentices improve workshop efficiency, service quality, and customer trust, leading to higher retention rates and long-term profitability. "We’ve already upskilled two young technicians with no prior experience, and today they confidently work on BMWs unassisted. Investing in young talent pays off—not just for our business but for the industry as a whole," says Lance Faulmann, Co-founder of Master M Through its partnership with BMW Service Centre SMG, Master M ensures apprentices receive cutting-edge training in hybrid technology and modern diagnostics, equipping them with future-proof skills. “Apprenticeships are essential for closing the skills gap. Businesses that invest in training not only uplift young professionals but also secure a sustainable, highly skilled workforce,” says Louis van Huyssteen, Retail Motor Industry Organisation National Director Training 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? Master M is finalising the number of apprentices it will take on, with plans to place them at one or both of its workshops. 💬 Let’s Talk! 1. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁? 2.
