Recently, our team had the pleasure of meeting with Paul Hastings LLP for an inspiring session about how their employees can make a significant social impact in New York City through Robin Hood. The event—organized by Paul Hasting's Lauren Brooten (Tsuchiya) and led by Robin Hood's Chris Campbell, Kate Davis, Margaret Schilling, and David Tomczak—was a masterclass in corporate engagement and nonprofit support. The room buzzed with energy as we delved into Robin Hood's mission to fight poverty in NYC, the state of poverty in New York, as well as unveiling our exciting corporate partnership opportunities, highlighting how companies like Paul Hastings LLP can collaborate with Robin Hood. But the highlight of the day was showcasing Robin Hood's Board Placement program, a best-in-class service that connects passionate employees with the boards of Robin Hood grantees. This was brought to life by Shawn Kodes, a Paul Hastings LLP partner, who shared his incredible journey with Robin Hood, serving on the board of Start Small Think Big and previously the Chair of the Junior Board of Partnership with Children. How do we fight poverty by driving career opportunities for young adults in the Bronx? That's the question Capital One asked Robin Hood, and why Capital One is partnering with us to invest over $500,000 in young adults in the Bronx. Facing the highest rates of poverty, hardship, and health issues in NYC, the Bronx also has the highest unemployment rate among young adults aged 18-34 at 31%. Capital One’s $500,000 grant will provide skills training and support for 2,500 Bronx residents. “The issues impacting young adults living in the Bronx have compounded since the pandemic,” said Richard Buery, CEO of Robin Hood. “We must continue to invest in their futures.” This partnership focuses on four critical areas: 🎓 College Access, 💼 Career Paths & Job Placements, 📉 Decrease Recidivism, 👐 Holistic Support.
