Want to see more efficiency gains in your compressed air system? Upgrade your single-stage compressor to a 2-stage VFD model. Smaller horsepower motors in 2-stage VFD designs maintain the same flow levels, or can use the same horsepower to supply more compressed air. That's why the Safeway Milk Plant upgraded their compressed air system. In total, they save over $15,000 per year. By harnessing the benefit of an energy audit and upgrading their compressor to a 2-stage VFD model, the plant is more efficient than ever. Every industry has its own acronyms. In the compressed air and vacuum industry, some common acronyms are easy to figure out. Others require a little bit of digging. Don't worry: we've broken down 5 acronyms that we hear every day. Think you've got them down? Use an acronym in a sentence and comment below! Sorry, no PDH credit offered for acronym proficiency. Our most frequently asked question about dryers: Is there a benefit to using both a refrigerated and desiccant dryer in your system? Short Answer: It depends. Don't worry, we won't leave you hanging. Here's the long answer: Rule of thumb: for every 20°F you decrease the temperature of a volume of air, you cut its ability to hold moisture in half. Placing a refrigerated dryer before a desiccant dryer in the system means that the refrigerated dryer will significantly reduce the moisture in the air before it reaches the desiccant dryer. This way, you can utilize a smaller desiccant dryer down the line. If the system is designed properly, there shouldn't be a need to install both types of dryers. Have more questions about dryers? What's the process of an air audit? STEP 1: Qualified auditors develop a diagram and data plan of your facility, estimating the savings potential. STEP 2: Sensors and loggers are installed in the facility. These can measure kW, pressure, flow, dewpoint, and temperature STEP 3: Data is collected, checked, and processed STEP 4: Auditors present proposed solutions based on the findings from the data collected Once an audit is complete, the customer selects a solution from those proposed. Auditing your facility's compressed air systems can save thousands in energy bills and help your plant run smoother than ever. What goes into a compressed air system? If you guessed an air compressor, you'd be right. But what else does the system need? 1. Air receivers that store compressed air 2. Air dryers & filters that reduce moisture content and contaminants in the air system 3. Compressor backup and communication that help 3 or more compressors run as-needed for essential redundancy 4. System design & piping to cool the compressor and increase efficiency Want to know what a compressed air system looks like for your facility?
