This conversation around "𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙧𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡?" has proven to be interesting with all of our guests on the #RuralRipplesPodcast. Words matter. Context, connotation and perception matters. We've learned a lot hearing about the local and cultural context of rural across the U.S. from our podcasts guests. Take a listen to Juanita Reyher-Colon's thoughts on how "rural" is defined and perceived in Hawai'i, and join in the conversation in the comments. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥?

GBRA had a blast at the #2024CatalystExperience hosted by the Rogue Water Lab! Our staff joined water professionals and leaders in San Antonio to plunge into a journey focused on public trust, storytelling, and building stronger relationships around water. Over the course of two days, staff explored their connection to water, learned strategies to overcome fear of the unknown, and discussed how to build community trust. Through creative sessions inspired by “A World of Pure Imagination,” the Catalyst Experience sparked thoughtful reflection, discussions, and ideas that will enhance our work. GBRA is inspired by the insights provided by Rogue Water Lab and looks forward to developing new strategies that embrace the passion for water engagement as we continue to serve the Basin and its communities! #GBRA #2024CatalystExperience

A little late, but I had to take a minute to digest the master class that was Rogue Water Lab's #2024CatalystExperience Trapeta B. Mayson, LCSW, MBA hosted a poetry workshop at SeaWorld to show us how to break the mold of storytelling in water. Greg Wukasch had us sing the Dos and Don'ts of water education Oompa Loompa style at The DoSeum. Frank Scott, Jr. responded to those questions everyone wants to ask a mayor about water. I'm leaving so much out. waterloop's recap videos show it all beautifully. Thank you to Chelsea Boozer, MPA for my Golden Ticket. Meeting professionals who are passionate about water and communications was a really special moment. When's the next one?

It has taken me a bit to unpack my experience at Catalyst last week. I left San Antonio glowing and inspired. Here are my key takeaways and personal highlights: The Catalyst experience is an un-conference. Don’t take your laptop. There is no wifi. It brought a group of acquaintances and strangers, guided us through an intentional process - modeling what is possible with the four pillars of building trust (telling the truth, conversation + experience, showing up and earning advocates) - and through that experience, created a bonded community. Embracing fear, imposter syndrome and imperfection. When I was younger, I was a “yes” to life and as I have gotten older, I have played it safe, which limits my growth and the joy of experiencing new things. I 'respectfully' retire this way of being and thanks to Travis Loop, I will be held accountable for this commitment. Challenge accepted. Connecting to water creatively. One of my favorite learning labs was when @Trapeta facilitated an ode to water. Previously, poetry hadn’t been accessible outlet to me and I felt vulnerable in connecting to water in this artistic format. This exercise helped me connect with my nostalgic memories of growing up on the Great Lakes - it was powerful and therapeutic. Frankly speaking with Mayor Frank Scott, Jr.. Another amazing session where we got to ask all our burning questions from the water sector to an elected official. When engaging with anyone bringing humanity and grace to the conversation is a must. Distinguishing between outreach, education and marketing ... guided by song. Greg Wukasch shared some important distinctions - my favorite: creating experiences to connect. When you leave the portal, the world is waiting for us. Sure enough, when I returned to reality, I got lost in my emails and my kids’ activities but I will never forget this world of pure imagination we tapped into and the power of the Catalyst experience. Thank you Rogue Water Lab Chelsea Boozer, MPA and Greg Wukasch, for an incredibly thoughtful, impactful, and magical experience. Your work is creating a movement in our sector, and words can’t express my gratitude for showing us the way. 🦩 🦩 🦩 I cannot wait to continue the conversation and the connections in Catalyst Convergence. #ThatsSoCatalyst #2024CatalystExperience Michelle Stockness Bebe Schaefer Arianne Shipley, CPC Bridget Patton Nate Conroy Dom Bennett, MSOD Ariel Bushel Andrew D.
