After running an end-to-end LoRaWAN application with 1 gateway and few devices, you might be thinking that it is time (with confidence) to deploy more LoRaWAN gateways for greater coverage (also to test LoRaWAN scale). You are now at the stage where having network coverage testing device is important. This kit is a good balance for both intermediate and beginner learners. For those more comfortable with intermediate topics like programming and building out hardware, the wide array of light sensors have countless project opportunities. For those more at a beginner level, lights are a great way to visualize what our systems are doing. For a simple classroom example, if you made a system that activated an LED when there was low-light (similar to how many night-lights work), beginner students could use a flashlight (or turning on and off the room lights) to trigger the sensor and activate the LED. Every Sunday, I run a comprehensive analysis script to aggregate data from each room in my home, including power usage, flagging any anomalies along the way. Here’s an example of my weekly damp and mould data summary, which highlights any issues and even suggests fixes dynamically if needed. It will even reconfigure the sensor sampling rate if needed for certain times. For a 200-year-old home, the results are surprisingly solid. When monitoring damp and mould, I recommend capturing surface temperature within the home and referencing outdoor temperatures. However, for most landlords, indoor environmental sensors provide a robust overview. LoRaWAN also brings notable flexibility to the table.
