Today, we honor the extraordinary life of Ruth Batson, a trailblazer in the Civil Rights Movement who dedicated her life to advocating for equality and justice. Ruth Batson's remarkable achievements are a testament to her unwavering commitment to social change. She was pivotal in promoting educational opportunities for minority students and co-founding the METCO program. Ruth also made history as the first Black woman on the Democratic National Committee and the first woman elected president of the NAACP's New England Regional Conference. Her tireless efforts advocating for fair housing and desegregation in Boston challenged the status quo. She highlighted the need for equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, color, or creed. Ruth Batson will forever be remembered for her courage, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the fight for equality. Rest in power, Ruth Batson. The City of Boston is releasing a request for proposals (RFP) from a qualified research team, consultant, or team of consultants and researchers to provide technical and administrative support for the development of an equity study with a focus on Black men and boys in the City of Boston. PHASE I OVERVIEW: The City intends to produce a report that will detail, quantify, and evaluate the prevalence, significance, and scope of inequities by the City of Boston, if any, against Black men and boys. The purpose of the report is to identify key data to understand how the City’s service delivery performs for Black men and boys and uncover what works well and unwell so that the City can understand the social and economic conditions of Black men and boys in Boston.
