Today, on Manufacturing Day, we are proud to announce that Rowan EDC will be facilitating events and activities throughout the entire month of October to celebrate and support Rowan County's vibrant manufacturing sector. Earlier this week, our team joined local manufacturing leaders at Salisbury High School for the Manufacturing Metals Open House, which showcased the expanded metals lab in the S.T.E.M. & Advanced Manufacturing Academy. Next week in partnership with the Rowan-Salisbury Schools CTE Program, October 7-11, approximately 490 students will participate in facility tours at over a dozen local manufacturers, gaining firsthand insight into the career opportunities available in Rowan County. These tours aim to inspire and equip our future workforce. Later this month, we will host two key events: a Manufacturer Appreciation Luncheon on October 29 at New York Air Brake with guest speaker Darren Skiles and a Women Manufacturing Leaders Panel on October 31 with panelists Kris Baum of Gränges Group, Teresa Stephens of Chroma Color Corporation, and Brittany Dorn of Hexagon Agility. These events will bring together industry leaders, celebrate local manufacturing contributions, and provide a platform for critical conversations about the future of our manufacturing community. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to honor Manufacturing Day and the vital role of manufacturing in Rowan County! #MFGDay24 #WorkInRowan #Manufacturing Daimler Truck North America Freshouse Staclean™ Diffuser Company GLR Kitchen and Bath Design Johnson Concrete Products The Driveshaft Shop Henkel Innospec Inc. A great opportunity for our manufacturing leaders and community to see the Metal Manufacturing Lab at Salisbury High School!
Open house success! We had well over 40 people in attendance at the Metal Manufacturing Lab at Salisbury High School. Instructor Mark Wells has done a phenomenal job with this program and expanding the equipment and capabilities. From Bridgeports, grinders, lathes, a CNC mill, plasma table, laser engraving, sinker edm, metrology lab and welding area! These students on truly on the path to success because of Mark. Thank you to all the businesses and our very own Rowan County EDC for attending. Lots of upcoming synergy. When community comes together, we can do remarkable things! #salisburync #manufacturingprogram #highschoolshop #highschoolmanufacturingprogram #futuremachinists #manualmachining #practicalmachinist Spire Motorsports mark petovic Kendall Henderson Mollie R. We love bringing our manufacturing community together for impactful conversations and connections! Earlier this month, we hosted a Manufacturing Network Meeting where our companies had the opportunity to network with workforce allies and community partners. Special thanks to Centralina Workforce Development Board, NCWorks, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for providing insightful presentations and answering questions about the resources available to help businesses thrive. Topics included workforce training opportunities, funding for workforce development, and tools to enhance operations. Shoutout to companies like McKenzie Creative Brands, already benefiting from these resources. HR Manager Wanda Mills shared their positive experience with the On-the-Job Training Program: “Our company was very pleased with participating in the On-the-Job Training Program. We received half of the employee’s hourly wage for up to six months. The only requirement was to provide weekly timesheets for reimbursement. We had good luck with all three of the participants we hired, including a recent high school graduate who has been an excellent addition to our team.” #ManufacturingNC #WorkInRowan #WorkforceDevelopment #WorkforceSolutions

Today we attended the first annual NC Beer Farm Day, hosted by the NC Craft Brewers Guild at Carolina Malt House, Inc in Cleveland, NC—one of only three malt houses in the state. Carolina Malt House sources their grains from local farmers within a 10-mile radius. Founder and CEO Aaron Goss shared, "This may look like a good-sized business, but we have a lot of room to grow. The U.S. exported about $250 million worth of malt barley last year, and North Carolina only saw about $50,000 of that. That number could grow a lot." He encouraged attendees to connect with local farmers and brewers to explore the benefits of supporting local agriculture.
