"Making" is in our DNA. Humans are makers and creators. Over the past few decades, we have replaced making with consuming - and the consequences cannot be understated.
This weekend, I took up crocheting. Why? I love to make things, and this is an opportunity to learn something new. Like all things worthwhile, there was a learning curve, but it was very straightforward. Within a few hours, I had my first project completed.
After creating a small blanket for my daughter's stuffy, I moved to giant yarn! This stuff is massive! It is 25MM wide (20 x wider than normal yarn), which requires my entire hand and a GIANT hook. I love it because I can make a full blanket in a few hours, and it is a pretty good arm workout.
I ran into other makers and got some great ideas while taking advantage of the JOANNE FABRIC, INC. Presidents' Day Sale. All of them have years of experience and were so happy to give some tips and hints.
I firmly believe that MAKING and CREATING are hardwired in our DNA - staying connected to this world is critical, and learning new things is always fun. Will I go full-time into blanket making? Probably not, but is it a great way to unwind after a long day? Absolutely.
My team at Rownd (YC W22) is full of amazing Makers! Bobby R. creates novel mobile automation flows, Michael Murray creates stunning front end experiences, Rachel Orrino designs flows that have never existed, Alex R. creates resilient infrastructure, Racheal O. creates highly available APIs and backend components, Matt H. creates everything else! I firmly believe that we find so much joy at this startup because we create something new every day.
