RTCA, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that serves the catalyst for aviation collaboration and consensus-based modernization of the air traffic management system. RTCA and its more than 1100 aviation community volunteers develop recommendations for (1) standards and guidance for aviation systems and equipment and (2) policies and investment priorities for operational capabilities that improve aviation safety, capacity, and efficiency. RTCA recommendations are used by the FAA as the basis for policy, program, and regulatory decisions and by the private sector as the basis for development, investment and other business decisions.

RTCA is pleased to share the publication of two important aviation standards that enhance communication and interoperability in the aviation sector. The update to DO-280B Change 2 enhances the Interoperability Requirements for Aeronautical Telecommunication Network Baseline 1 by streamlining waypoint communication and addressing data discrepancies. Additionally, DO-379A updates Technical Standard for Aviation Profiles in the Internet Protocol Suite, improving data communications between aircraft and ground systems and supporting operations for Remotely Piloted and Unmanned Aircraft Systems. A big thank you to the 400 participants who joined us for insightful discussions on the current and future landscape of #cybersecurity in aviation. Below is a summary of the sessions: ✈️ Tracking Cyber Threats and Risks in #Aviation: This panel provided an in-depth analysis of the diverse cybersecurity challenges facing the aviation industry today. Experts discussed not only the well-known risks but also emerging threats that are increasingly sophisticated. The conversation emphasized the need for continuous collaboration across all sectors, from ground operations to aircraft systems, to safeguard aviation security. The panel featured experts from Southwest Airlines, Thales, Aviation ISAC, and skyguide. 🔒 Balancing #Security and Safety in Aviation: This session explored the complex relationship between maintaining operational safety while addressing evolving security threats. Experts delved into key issues such as spoofing, jamming, and the role of stringent security standards in protecting aviation systems. The panel featured experts from Honeywell, Airbus, Wisk, and CASRA (Center for Adaptive Security Research & Applications). 💻 Advanced #Technologies Broaden Aviation Security Challenges: As the aviation landscape evolves, both in the air and on the ground, new security challenges emerge. This panel focused on how advanced technologies are reshaping the aviation security landscape, with speakers discussing collaborative strategies to ensure that safety and security are upheld across all domains. The panel featured experts from Rolls-Royce, US Navy, Boeing, and CyberBen OÜ. 🌎 In addition to the panel discussions, the summit also featured three flash talks delivered by EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the International Civil Aviation Organization, offering focused insights from these key regulatory bodies.

RTCA Special Committee Progress in September The Program Management Committee (PMC) met at RTCA headquarters, approving five standards and recognizing Clay Barber of Garmin as the inaugural PMC Member Emeritus. SC-244 (WG-129) met at the UK Civil Aviation Authority, drafting a report on Take-off Performance Monitoring System standards, expected later this year. which will recommend creating a Minimum operational performance standard. SC-206 (WG-76) gathered at EUROCONTROL, working on a new turbulence standard and approving DO-364A/ED-335 for publication in 2025.
