CEO @ RunDNA | Gait is an ESSENTIAL part of the Rehab and Performance paradigm...How do you measure it?!

When treating clients with recurrent injuries, what factors do you feel are often overlooked? Could gait analysis be a missing piece? In my opinion, gait analysis is a crucial missing piece. Take someone with unilateral low back pain for example. I have had this happen to me in my own career that I would give a great treatment to a client and expect that they would come back signing my praises, only for them to tell me they got a few hours of relief before the pain came back. THEN, I would look at their walking and see that hip extension was 8-10 degrees less on one side and they had to rotate the pelvis to keep strides symmetrical. As soon as I fixed the gait, the benefit of that treatment finally gave them the long term results I was looking for. Do you look at gait with (almost) every patient? What are other critical missing pieces?

What's the impact of gait on injury resolution? In my perspective, gait plays a huge role in getting people back to their desired level of activity. Walking and Running! The way in which we walk and run is one of the greatest expressions of our movement capabilities. Mobility is not ability! Stability is not ability! We cannot focus on impairments and forget the most important part...how people use their new range and strength. You can hear my personal story below about how gait played a huge role in my own recovery from a partially torn patellar tendon. I would love to hear your thoughts on utilizing gait analysis and retraining for injury resolution! https://lnkd.in/d6wB7xtV

💪 POST-RUN RECOVERY When training for that next race, the training program is not complete without a dedicated recovery plan. There's plenty of recovery tools out there that people swear by to aid in their recovery...compression boots, cold plunges, massage guns - the list goes on! 📃 However, these gadgets and modalities are simply "nice to haves." When it comes to recovery, it's quite simple. There are 3 main components of any recovery plan that can kickstart your recovery and maximize your gains! 💥 💤 Sleep: The Ultimate Performance Enhancer! Sleep allows our body to recover over night by rebuilding muscle and preparing us for the next day of training. ⛽ Fuel: Food is fuel! Consuming appropriate amounts of fluids with electrolytes as well as a healthy balanced diet following activity allows the body to begin the repair process immediately following training as well as prepare you for the next training session. ⚖️ Match: Recover how you train! By aligning your recovery efforts to your training, you can create an optimal recovery day giving your body the best opportunity to reap the benefits of your training. Ready to learn more?
