We empower students to build a better world by developing experiential learning centers w/ pathways to the green economy

About us

Runway Green is a non-profit, public-private partnership creating pathways for New York City students and families to thrive in the green economy. We believe that education and workforce development systems must be reimagined to empower New Yorkers from underserved communities to excel in the careers of the future, center climate resilience in their careers and neighborhoods, and build a better world. In partnership with the National Park Service, we are developing an unprecedented education and workforce development ecosystem on some of our region’s most ecologically rich parklands at Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field. The first phase, breaking ground in 2025, will be a seven-acre learning ecosystem featuring a solar panel workshop, world-class science labs, a three-acre farm and greenhouse, a ropes course, an amphitheater, access to Jamaica Bay for marine biology, and a new high school. Each year, up to 50,000 New York City public school students will come to Runway Green at Floyd Bennett Field to learn, work, and intern with leading education and environmental nonprofits to build skills and mindsets focused on sustainability, solve real-world problems, and earn credentials in green careers. Subsequent phases will expand career-connected programming to support green-job training and professional development for adults.
