VP Greg Gilligan represented RVA757 Connects at the ribbon cutting ceremony this morning. Innovation is taking place in the I-64 Innovation Corridor.
Plenty® opened the world’s first farm to grow indoor, vertically farmed strawberries at scale at its campus in the Meadowville Technology Park in Chesterfield County. The new indoor farm will start growing Driscoll's strawberries as a test in the next month or so and then start growing the berries for supermarkets by the end of the year. The first strawberries from the farm will be available in early 2025. The new facility can produce more than 4 million pounds of strawberries annually in less than 40,000 square feet by growing vertically on 30-foot-tall towers. Plenty's indoor farm expects to have several farming buildings and employ 300 people on the multi-facility campus, with an investment of some $300 million. Glenn Youngkin, along with the CEO of Plenty, other dignitaries and Plenty employees cut the ceremonial ribbon on Tuesday morning. The project came together with a team at Chesterfield Economic Development, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Greater Richmond Partnership, and Dominion Energy. Congrats to H. Garrett Hart III, CEcD, HLM and Matt McLaren. I had the pleasure of attending the event this morning, representing RVA757 Connects. Thanks Erin Santy for inviting me.
